Chapter 531
"Mom, I saw the news." A cold, ghostly voice came through the phone.
Mrs. Winston's face instantly turned pale.
Haley quickly supported her slightly swaying body, worried. "Are you okay? Do you need to sit down for a while?"
"I'm fine." Mrs. Winston took a deep breath, forced a smile, and said, "I'll go out to take a call first."
She walked outside, closed her eyes, and said slowly, "Sterling, I've already heard from Ivan about the last incident. I really didn't expect that you would use my trust in you to harm your own brother. Sterling, I believed in you once, but not anymore. I won't see you again, leave Watertown, go far away, and never come back."
"Mom, you only saw me hurting him, but have you ever thought why I did it?" The person on the other end of the phone gritted their teeth. "I've worked hard to run the company for decades, and Ivan ruined it! I just wanted him to taste the pain, to understand my feelings over the years, I shouldn't be wrong.
"He's living a good life now, with a happy family and four children. What about me? We are twin brothers, one flourishing, one down and out, one respected by all, one like a rat in a gutter, why? It's so unfair."
Mrs. Winston's lips trembled, tears uncontrollably falling.
Two children, both so dear to her.
But now, things have came to this point, what else could be done?
There was only one way to go.
"Sterling, it's my fault. If I hadn't trusted that person back then, I wouldn't have sent you away, and so many things wouldn't have happened. Sterling, if you want my life, you can take it, I won't say a word."
Sterling sneered, "I'm not interested in your life, I just want to take back what rightfully belongs to me!"
The phone was abruptly hung up.
Mrs. Winston couldn't control her emotions anymore, tears streaming down uncontrollably.
She truly regretted, regretted the wrong decision she made twenty-six years ago.
Because of that decision, Sterling's life was ruined. Her husband died with a stain on his name, and she and Ivan have always found it hard to be close...
She was wrong! Terribly wrong!
"Mrs. Winston, what's wrong with you?" A voice suddenly came from behind.
Mrs. Winston quickly wiped away her tears, turned around, and saw a familiar face, she was stunned. "Katherine, what are you doing here?"
The blonde, blue-eyed girl held Mrs. Winston's arm and smiled. "Didn't I tell you before, I'm coming to Watertown to open a counseling studio, the studio is almost ready, I flew to Watertown yesterday. I heard that Ivan was hospitalized, so I came to visit. Mrs. Winston, is Ivan seriously ill? Why are you crying like this?"
"Ivan is fine, he's about to be discharged." Mrs. Winston, with red eyes, looked extremely despondent.
Katherine narrowed her eyes and said softly, "Mrs. Katherine, did Sterling call you again? Is that why you're like this?"
Mrs. Winston forced a smile.
She had lived alone abroad for four or five years, always accompanied by Katherine.
Katherine was a psychologist, and she would tell Katherine about any troubles she had.
Katherine knew some of the terrible things about the Winston family, and Mrs. Winston had nothing to hide from this girl.
She forced a smile and said, "Ivan is getting married."
