Chapter 723
"Boss, we got trouble! Other factions have breached the border and are stirring up chaos!"
The guard burst in, panic written all over his face.
Leonardo's expression darkened. He shot a glance at Haley and whispered, "You need to get out of here, now."
He yanked open a drawer, grabbed two black pistols, and tucked them into his waistband. Without another word, he followed the guard downstairs. Moments later, the sound of a car speeding away echoed through the room.
Haley stood by the window, watching the car vanish down the driveway, her heart heavy with worry.
Ivan, the CEO of the Winston Group, was supposed to be living the high life in Watertown, ruling the business world. Even if he bombed a negotiation or faced a business disaster, the worst that could happen was the family business going under.
But now, for reasons she couldn't fathom, Ivan was here, leading a rebel group. Whenever danger loomed, he was the first to charge in, defending some mysterious cause amidst a storm of bullets.
She couldn't help but think it wasn't worth it for Ivan.
Haley looked around the study, clearly August's, with the family crest everywhere.
She searched but found nothing to prove Leonardo was Ivan.
Walking out of the core military zone, Haley felt lost.
She thought, 'Could an injured man left in chaos really become a leader in just a month?'
Maybe she was overthinking it?
Sure, Leonardo looked just like Ivan, but so did Martin.
Too many people looked alike.
The hope that had flickered in Haley's heart turned into anxious waiting amidst her jumbled thoughts.
"Mommy, what's wrong?"
"Mommy, did Leonardo hurt you?"
"Mommy, your eyes are red. Did you cry?"
"Leonardo's a jerk. I'm gonna teach him a lesson!"
Haley realized she had walked back to the villa, surrounded by her four kids, their eyes full of concern.
She had worried them again.
She knelt down and gently said, "I'm fine. I just found a little clue about your daddy."
The kids' eyes lit up, especially Angela, who jumped up. "Mommy, did you find Daddy?"
"Let's go inside first," Thomas said, opening the villa door. "There was just an attack by the rebels, and many civilians got hurt. It's safer inside."
A hint of sadness crossed Haley's face.
They could hide in the villa, but Ivan had to lead the troops and face the danger head-on.
Once inside, everyone sat on the sofa.
Haley lowered her eyes and softly said, "When I was talking to Leonardo today, I accidentally saw his face."
All eyes were on her, waiting for her next words.
