Chapter 769

Haley grabbed her phone and skillfully dialed Ivan's number, but there was no answer.

The ominous feeling in Haley's heart grew stronger. She forced a smile and said, "I'll try calling him again."

The phone kept vibrating on the floor in the distance.

Ivan's eyelids twitched violently as he struggled repeatedly, finally managing to pry them open.

His head throbbed with pain. He wanted to press his temples with his hand, only to realize that his hands and feet were tied with ropes.

He immediately became alert.

The environment was engulfed in profound darkness, save for the dim radiance emanating from the smartphone lying on the floor.

The screen displayed a familiar number, a string of digits etched into his heart.

"Who's calling?" A woman's voice suddenly echoed in the dark room.

Ivan turned towards the sound.

Upon acclimating to the darkness, he was able to discern the silhouette of a female figure seated approximately two meters distant, and her voice was unequivocally familiar.

He tensed his jaw, his voice cold, "Queen Isabella, what are you up to?"

Isabella bent down to pick up the phone from the ground, a smile playing on her face, "this person called three times and then sent a message asking when you'd be home." Ivan's face instantly turned icy.

Suppressing the anger swirling in his chest, he said coldly, "It seems betraying partners is nothing new for you, Queen. No wonder you've faced impeachment so many times over the years, with your throne always hanging by a thread."

"I won't kill you," Isabella said with a faint smile, "why don't you listen to a story first?"

Ignoring the chilling aura emanating from Ivan, Isabella began to reminisce.

"I met my husband when I was twelve. He always pampered and protected me. After my parents passed away, he single-handedly helped me ascend to the throne. But when our daughter was seven, he died protecting me. I loved him deeply, but he left me just like that. It's been thirteen years now. Every night, I recall his face and voice. I'm afraid I'll forget him one day, and I don't want to. Then you appeared."

Isabella stood up and walked slowly towards Ivan.

She raised her hand and removed the golden mask from Ivan's face. Her eyes were filled with obsession as her fingers brushed the scars on his face.

"Back then, he was slashed by rebels while protecting me. The direction of that slash is exactly the same as the scar on your face. Your height, your presence, and the way you speak! You're so similar. Leonardo, if you're willing to stay and work for me, I will love you as I loved my husband."

Ivan's gaze remained cold. "Do you think that's possible?"

"I know I'm a bit older, but I've taken good care of myself. My physical age should be around thirty-two, so I'm not much older than you," Isabella continued. "All I need is companionship. Just let me see you every day. You can have your own life, marrying and having children. Live like a normal person. Just stay by my side."

Isabella's demeanor gradually became more humble.

For the first time in so many years, she had lowered herself to such an extent.

Thirteen years of widowhood had made her long for companionship.
