Chapter 382
Haley's first thought was that Ivan brought someone with him. However, those footsteps sounded familiar…
It was Todd! He had arrived!
The sound of gunfire must have alerted Todd, prompting him to investigate the commotion. Haley's eyes widened in shock. If Todd had indeed arrived, she would have inadvertently given Emily another advantage in their dangerous standoff.
Desperate to avoid escalating the situation, Haley refrained from screaming out to Todd to get away quickly. She knew that such an action could provoke Emily further. Despite Emily's intense focus on Haley, she remained unaware of the footsteps steadily approaching from outside.
Haley closed her eyes momentarily, regaining her composure before speaking again. "Emily, you seem fixated on giving me a scarred face. It's just a face; I'm not so attached to it. Just don't harm anyone else. Let Ivan and Keith go!" Her words were firm as she took a step back, positioning herself protectively in front of the door.
Just then, the footsteps outside ceased, and Todd appeared at the entrance, his small figure hidden behind Haley.
Unaware of Todd's presence, Emily's laughter turned sinister. "Yes, it's your face I want scarred. Only then will I find satisfaction..."
Standing behind Haley, Todd didn't leave. Instead, he reached into his pocket, finding the gift Owen had given him the previous day—something he had scorned and tossed aside carelessly. Now, however, it would prove useful. Bending down, he picked up a pebble and securely wrapped it in the object.
Stretching the slingshot taut, Todd's eyes remained calm and fixed on his target. With a precise aim at the figure in the center of the factory, he released his grip.
Whoosh!
The stone flew fiercely, striking Emily squarely in the eye. She instinctively clutched her injured eye, reeling from the sudden and intense pain.
In an instant, Haley sprang forward, her foot swiftly kicking away the gun that had fallen to the ground. Then, with a decisive move, she clamped down on Emily's hands, pinning her violently to the floor.
Emily let out a pained scream, overwhelmed by the agony coursing through her injured eye and the force with which she was restrained.
"Let me go, get off! Haley, you bitch, let go of me! I won't let you off. I'll ensure you meet your end!”
Todd intervened, tearing a strip of cloth from his attire and swiftly gagging Emily. "You're making too much noise," he remarked firmly.
Outside, the wail of police sirens filled the air. The police had arrived.
Haley's body relaxed. "Todd, thank you..."
If Todd hadn't been there, she would never have come out of this unscathed.
Todd looked at her, a distant expression in his eyes. "Haley, you should have told me sooner that Keith is my older brother..."
In doing so, he could have spared himself from enduring torment for countless days.
"I'm sorry, Todd, so sorry..." Haley said, hugging him tightly as tears finally fell.
She quickly wiped away her tears and stood up. "Now's not the time for this. We need to get to the hospital!"
Hospitals were always permeated with the strong scent of disinfectant.
Although Keith had sustained a head injury, it wasn't severe enough to warrant hospitalization; after receiving necessary treatment and bandaging, Alfred escorted him back to the Winston residence.
Haley, worried about Angela's well-being, insisted that Todd accompany her back to the Winston family, while she opted to stay at the hospital to keep an eye on Ivan.
The man had been struck by two bullets. While the wounds weren't fatal, the loss of blood was significant, resulting in serious injuries.
After undergoing a two-hour surgical procedure, the doctors then transferred him to a hospital ward.
Haley sat by the bedside, blankly staring at the man's stunning yet pale face, a whirlwind of emotions swirling inside her. If it weren't for him holding her out of the way, then at this moment, those two bullets would surely have pierced through her abdomen. With so many vital organs there, even if she didn't die, she would be critically wounded. This man had saved her life.
