Chapter 202
Keith inquired slowly, "What's the relationship between that little girl and Haley?"
Just moments before in the hospital room, Owen had mentioned Angela visited with Haley. Now here they were again, emerging together, Haley also with another boy in tow.
A suspicion arose within him.
Emily's heart skipped a beat. Keith rarely took interest in anything or anyone, and today, he had inquired about that little girl. That little girl was Haley's daughter, Keith's half-sister!
Could there be an intangible bond between siblings, an attraction of shared blood? And if so, with Keith's brilliance, he might realize that Haley was his and Owen’s real mother sooner or later.
Emily's mind raced with countless thoughts in just an instant. She took a deep breath and said, "I'm curious about the girl's connection to Haley too. Even if she had gotten pregnant immediately after her disappearance four years ago, there's no way she could have such a daughter at this age..." Her implication was clear: the child couldn't possibly be Haley's.
Keith withdrew his gaze nonchalantly.
The relationship between Angela and Haley would be a puzzle to solve later, perhaps a conversation with Owen could shed more light. With a slight purse of his lips, he suggested, "Mom, let's go."
He was the picture of calm, yet this only unsettled Emily.
She caught up to him, saying on the move, "Keith, how's the investigation into the car accident going? Any evidence linking it to Haley yet?"
Keith shook his head, "It doesn't seem to be related to Haley. Dad's already on to the Thompsons from the capital. If nothing goes awry, they're likely the ones involved. Haley, no matter how manipulative she is, couldn't possibly be related to the incident."
"How can you say it's unrelated?" Emily's voice pitched higher, "Who else would harm Owen? Keith, don’t tell me you've been charmed by that woman too?"
Keith frowned, "Mom, there’s no evidence implicating Haley."
"She's clever, might have wiped the slate clean. That’s why you’ve found nothing," Emily clenched her jaw, "It must be her! It can only be her! If we don’t bring her to justice, she’ll harm Owen and you again! Keith, I’m really worried about you both. I’d rather be hurt myself than see you hospitalized again..."
Already familiar with her pretenses, Keith saw right through her. All these words, they were simply to leverage the Winston family’s influence to push Haley out of Cuenca. If Dad hadn’t shown an interest in that woman, maybe, just for Mom, he would've acted against Haley. But Dad wouldn’t allow it. The last time Keith carelessly hacked into Haley's company website, it was the first time Dad ever reprimanded him. He wouldn't strike rashly again without a solid reason.
But Keith’s attitude made Emily boil with frustration.
Was Keith refusing to help her now? Had Haley, that schemer, truly bewitched him, shifting his eternal loyalty? Even if Haley wasn't behind the accident, Emily was set on warping the truth.
"Keith, you might not believe me, but the truth will prove I'm right. I'm not going home with you. I have a piano lesson."
With a deep, piercing look at Keith, Emily turned and got into her car.
