Chapter 644
Martin had never seen any woman who gets jealous before, and that night he was really taken aback by Haley's outburst.
Several slaps landed before he could even react.
Of course, he also got doused with two glasses of red wine by Haley.
When thinking back to that night, Martin felt inexplicably guilty.
Although nothing had actually happened between him and Katherine, the scene Haley witnessed was indeed hard to explained away...
"I’m sure," Haley said seriously. "I just want to get better quickly. I want to live like a normal person, no more nightmares, no more anxiety, and no more paranoia. Ivan, please help me."
Martin pressed his lips together. "Alright, I'll contact Katherine and see if she has time."
As soon as he left, Haley let out a deep breath.
She leaned against the headboard, her mind racing with a flurry of thoughts.
She had been thinking and planning constantly, and she was utterly exhausted...
Haley's phone suddenly vibrated.
She glanced at it; it was a video call from the kids.
The gloom on Haley's face instantly disappeared, and she walked to the bathroom to answer the call.
"Mommy, we’re here!" Owen's voice came through first. "Mommy, look! I’m in the room you used to sleep in!"
Angela, holding a pink stuffed toy, squeezed into the frame. "Mommy, Honey Bunny, I’m bringing it home this time."
Haley smiled. "Alright, you take good care of it, and I’ll bring you all back home together."
"Mommy, don’t worry, we’re all fine," Todd said obediently. "Uncle Thomas is taking us out for dinner later. Mommy, where are you?"
Todd, with his sharp eyes, noticed the unfamiliar background in the video and then saw Haley's tired expression. "Mommy, you have dark circles under your eyes, and your hair is messy. Did you just wake up?"
"Yeah, I just woke up in the office," Haley said with a helpless smile. "There’s so much work at the company. I had to sleep in the office last night. I need to freshen up quickly. You all behave and listen to Uncle Thomas, no mischief."
"Yes, Mommy!"
The kids responded in unison.
After saying goodbye to the kids, Thomas took the phone and said in a low voice, "Haley, you don't seem to be doing well. What’s going on?"
"I’ll tell you once it is settled," Haley said, forcing a smile. "The best way you can help me is to take good care of and protect the kids. Thank you."
"Oh, there's no need for thanks between us. I’ll take the kids out for dinner now. We’ll talk later."
After hanging up, the smile on Haley's face vanished instantly.
There was still a tough battle ahead...
She looked at her haggard reflection in the mirror, tousled her hair a bit more, and then went back to lie on the bed.
Martin came in soon. "Katherine said she can spare a few hours tonight. Is that okay?"
"Of course," Haley said with self-mockery. "Other people have to make appointments and wait in line. I’m lucky to get treatment so quickly. Ivan, thank you."
