Chapter 824 Enter
With striking and elegant features and glamorous makeup, Haley was like a goddess emerging from a painting, stunning and captivating.
Barbara grew even more jealous and said with a forced smile, "It seems that being pregnant before marriage can be inherited. No wonder people say, 'Like mother, like daughter.' Haley, you really are just like your mom."
Before Barbara could finish her sentence, a crisp slap landed on her cheek.
Barbara stared in disbelief, "Haley, are you crazy? How dare you hit me?"
She lunged forward, ready to attack.
Steven shouted angrily, "You embarrass yourself the moment you step out. How could I have a daughter like you? Justin, take her back!"
Justin quickly stepped forward, holding Barbara's arm, and whispered, "Barbara, there are so many people here today. Don't make a scene. I'll take you home."
Haley rubbed her slightly numb fingertips and said calmly, "Justin, let her go. Let's see who ends up embarrassed."
Barbara felt like her insides were on fire.
It wasn't the first time she had been slapped by Haley. She could let the last time slide since it happened at the Deross family's, and she wasn't too embarrassed.
But now, in front of a crowd with countless eyes on her, she had been slapped by Haley.
"Everyone knows you hate me, but as a younger person, you shouldn't speak ill of my mother," Haley said coldly. "I have two bottom lines: my children and my mother. Have you got that?"
Haley's condescending tone, with its underlying threat, fueled Barbara's rage even more.
Before Barbara could retort with insults, Justin pulled her away. "Barbara, just stop. The more you make a fuss, the worse it is for you. The Martinez family, the Lumi Family, and the Winston family will all hold a grudge against you."
Justin ushered Barbara into the car, and they left.
Amara shook her head and sighed. "Barbara is becoming more and more unreasonable. She's not been one of us since she got married."
Steven added, "I've told her to get a divorce, but she refuses. I don't know what she'll become if she continues this way."
Haley didn't want to concern herself too much with Barbara's issues.
She helped Amara into the venue, and as soon as they reached the entrance, Cauth hurried out to greet them.
He had been receiving guests inside when he heard from the servants that something had happened at the door. He suddenly regretted not waiting at the entrance to personally welcome Haley.
"Haley, are you okay?" Cauth greeted her first, then turned to the Martinez family. "Madam Martinez, Mr. Martinez, please come inside."
Amara eyed Cauth carefully.
She still couldn't understand how her obedient, rabbit-like daughter had gotten mixed up with Cauth before their marriage.
But that was over twenty years ago, and there was no need to question Cauth about it now.
Cauth escorted Amara and Haley into the banquet hall.
Haley thought none of the other Lumi Family members would be present, but she was surprised to see Bark and Hollis, as well as Ava, who was chatting with the guests.
With Bark's presence, the banquet was quite grand, and almost half of the well-known people in Watertown had attended.
As Haley entered through the door, almost everyone's gaze fell on her.
The former beauty of Watertown, Haley, indeed had two scars on her face, as reported in the news.
Although the scars were somewhat concealed by makeup, they still detracted from Haley's striking appearance.
The guests in the banquet hall couldn't help but whisper and gossip among themselves.
