Chapter 323
Keith knew the Winston Group had their third review meeting of Project A-F today. He was intrigued by the proprietary technology at its core, prompting him to drop by for the meeting.
"The meeting ended early," Ivan said, "If you have any questions, you can ask Haley directly later."
Keith pressed his lips together. "Didn't Haley stop coming to our place?"
Shad stopped cooking for Owen and refused to set foot in the Winston residence because of his moves against Star Technology.
Unable to meet Haley privately, he had no choice but to come under the pretense of work.
Yet, he still missed the chance to see her.
Ivan spoke in an understated tone, "Haley's over at the Winston's, prepping dinner for Owen."
Keith looked surprised. "Really?"
Ivan gave a nod of confirmation.
A cold smirk crept across his thin lips. "If you're not fond of Haley, feel free not to head back to the Winston residence."
After a moment of silence, Keith responded softly, "Haley is a programming prodigy lauded by Harvard professors. I've got a few questions to ask her."
His implication was clear—he wanted to return home.
Ivan said no more and strode into the elevator with Keith folding himself in after him.
The father and son, eerily alike, stood isolated within the elevator. Their expressions were as frosty as ever, much like two icebergs, one larger than the other.
Keith didn't get into his car; he sat in the back seat of Ivan's.
Just as Ivan was about to start the engine, something seemed to cross his mind, and he pulled out his cell phone to make another call.
Haley had just finished browsing through a photo album.
Glancing at her watch, she was startled to see it was nearly five in the afternoon.
The day at the Winston residence she had flown by in the blink of an eye.
She planned to pick up the kids from preschool before returning to Winston's to cook for Owen when her phone started to vibrate.
"Wow, Father calling Haley again!" Owen eagerly picked up the phone from the sofa and handed it to Haley with a grin, his eyes squinting with joy.
Ivan had called Haley twice in a day. It seemed like he might like Haley.
'If Father married Haley, I can proudly call her Mommy, right?' Owen's laughter was infectious, sweet, and filled with delight.
Haley found herself chuckling, too. "Mr. Winston, what can I do for you?"
"I'm near Sunshine Preschool running an errand. I'll pick up the kids, so you don't have to make the trip."
The stern voice came through the phone, and Haley instinctively refused, knowing that Angela disliked strangers.
However, Angela's sparkling eyes every time she saw Ivan came into her mind. Haley let out an almost imperceptible sigh.
Maybe this was the mysterious tether of blood between a father and a daughter.
Angela had fearlessly run into Ivan's arms the very first time they met. Such a profound genetic pull was beyond her power to stop.
Owen found himself inexplicably falling for her, an attachment he couldn't seem to shake off.
"Then, I'll have to thank you for your trouble, Mr. Winston. I'll call their teacher right away."
