Chapter 404 Mrs. Winston's Attempt to Keep the Family Lineage
Mrs. Winston pulled out a chair and settled into it, her gaze distant and uninterested. "You both must have an idea of what I wish to discuss, right?"
Ivan tightened his lips, a small crease forming on his forehead. "Mrs. Winston, Haley, and I will come up with a solution; there's no need for you to intervene."
Haley's lips formed a thin line.
Ever since she learned that Keith and Owen were her biological sons, she'd been pondering how to resolve the situation. Despite days of contemplation, she still hadn't devised a flawless plan. She couldn't bear the thought of losing any of her children or causing them any pain.
There was a pause before Mrs. Winston began to speak again. "I won't meddle in your affairs. I do, however, have some advice to offer," she said slowly. "A child of the Winston family must acknowledge their heritage and bear the Winston surname. Ms. DeRoss, do you have any thoughts on this?"
Haley's jaw tightened even further. "Please, proceed with your advice, Mrs. Winston."
"A child of the Winston family should be raised according to our traditions, thus both children must move into the Winston household," Mrs. Winston stated plainly. "As for you, Ms. DeRoss—"
Her gaze settled calmly on Haley before she continued, "You have two options. Firstly, you could return the children to the Winston family as if they were never yours."
Haley's expression turned frigid. She couldn't believe Mrs. Winston harbored such intentions, reminiscent of Ethan...
Ivan's face mirrored Haley's chill. "Mrs. Winston, I think it's best if you return to Australia tomorrow. I'll arrange for someone to accompany you back..."
Mrs. Winston interjected coldly, "I haven't mentioned the second option yet. It's quite simple: the two of you marry and provide the children with a complete home. That's the best solution."
At Mrs. Winston's words, both Haley and Ivan were dumbfounded.
"The four children are quadruplets, meant to be together by nature. Due to the adults' oversight, they've been separated for four whole years, which has been incredibly unfair to them all. I will not allow anyone to split up these four children!" Mrs. Winston's voice grew icier. "No matter how much criticism the Winston family faces, I will not permit you, Ms. DeRoss, to take Todd and Angela away again."
Haley lifted her calm gaze, her lips curling into a sneer. "So, if I decline to marry Ivan, then I'm deemed unfit to be the mother of the four children, is that it?"
Mrs. Winston shook her head. "You will always be their mother; that cannot change. However, the Winston family will keep your identity concealed, and we will limit the frequency and duration of your visits with the children."
Haley's sneer widened, filled with coldness.
After a moment, she finally spoke, "Then I also have a message for Mrs. Winston: nobody can compel me to do something I'm unwilling to do."
With that, she turned on her heel, led Todd and Angela out of the dining room, and climbed into the waiting car, which promptly drove away.
"Ivan, even if you plan to send me back to Australia tomorrow, I will stand by my decision," Mrs. Winston said sternly. "Blood relatives should reside together... once separated, it leads to animosity, just like you and your brother..."
Ivan's expression darkened. "Mrs. Winston, the reason he and I became enemies isn't solely because we didn't live together..."
"But it's a part of it. How could he turn out like that?" Mrs. Winston's voice grew hoarse suddenly. "Ivan, I've rarely intervened in your affairs over the years because I know I have no right to, and you wouldn't listen to me anyway. But this time, you must heed your mother's advice—the four children are quadruplets, they even have a psychic connection, and they shouldn't be separated due to their parents' mistakes."
