Chapter 197

"Mr. Albert, if you're planning to take on a student, allow me to recommend my daughter, Angela."

Haley's lips curled into a gentle smile as she spoke.

Upon hearing this, Albert was momentarily taken aback, “Haley, I was open to teaching you, but not others. Even your daughter wouldn't be an exception..."

"Why not see what she can do?" Haley suggested, “You have an hour before you leave Cuenca; that’s more than enough time to enjoy a piano piece."

Albert studied Haley intently. He had known her for several years now and was well aware that she wasn't one to speak without reason. Despite being well aware of his renown, she had never fawned over him or sought his favor, even turning down the opportunity to be study with him. He doubted he could find another like her anywhere in the world.

Finally, Mr. Albert nodded, his gaze softening as he addressed the little girl, "Why don't you play something for us, Angela? Just relax and have fun."

The suite was furnished with a grand piano.

Since his thirties, Albert had held piano concerts annually across the globe, with pianos prepped for him at each location.

He walked Angela over to the piano and sat her down.

The grand piano, with its long strings, clear wood grain, and delicate seams, was visibly top-notch; even without a sound check, Haley could tell. It made sense that only an exquisite instrument would find a place in Mr. Albert's suite.

Angela tentatively pressed a few keys. The high notes rang out crisply, resonating brightly. A spark lit in the little girl's eyes as she lifted her hands and, with closed eyes, effortlessly played "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." It was a tune familiar to children worldwide, simple and cheerful, easily picked up after just a few days of beginners' practice.

Albert expected a basic performance, but as Angela finished, he was genuinely impressed.

Leaning forward, he encouraged her, "Let's try that last note one more time..."

Angela had ended the piece with a staccato note, a creative touch that gave the simple tune a fresh feel. It was a subtle choice, perhaps not fully appreciated by a young child, but for an adult, it could bring a touch of nostalgia...

It was a small triumph to evoke such an emotional echo. It was impressive for such a young player.

Albert, touched by the performance, asked softly, "Could you play it again, Angela?"

Angela didn't understand his request but looked up at her mother after she finished playing and ran back to her side.

Seeing Albert's reaction, Haley felt a surge of pride. Angela might have a natural talent for music, possibly even more so than herself.

"Haley, let her play it again," Albert said, his eyes shining with excitement.

Angela, a bit startled, quickly moved behind her mother.

Todd stepped forward, looking out for his sister with a protective gaze.

With a sheepish smile, Albert acknowledged that he could have been overzealous and said, "The last time I was this impressed was with you, Haley." Your daughter's turn now. Angela can learn from me with pleasure!

Haley grinned, “Mr. Albert, Angela might just outshine me. You'll see, she's a remarkable student."

She crouched down to Angela's level, speaking gently, "Angela, Mr. Albert is going to be your piano teacher. He’s slightly different from your preschool teachers; he will guide you for a rather long time. Remember to be a good student, okay?"

Since Albert had a flight to catch, they agreed to start lessons as soon as he returned from his trip, foregoing any formalities for the time being.
