Chapter 29 An unexpected hero

Todd calmly replied, "Teachers who gossip about students behind their backs are not qualified to educate."
The older teacher was almost driven crazy by anger. This was the first time someone dared to reprimand her face-to-face, especially a child who looked to be around four or five years old.
One of the other teachers present recognized him and said, "Mrs. Lee, he seems to be a transfer student from Class Nine, and his name is...Todd, yes, that's him!"
Mrs. Lee finally realized why this child had suddenly barged into the office. He had overheard their discussion about that autistic child, Angela DeRoss.
"Angela is my sister, and I won't allow you to talk about her," Todd raised his chin, his eyes filled with a chilling coldness.
"If I hear it again, I'll have to pay a visit to the education bureau."
Several adults were actually intimidated by his gaze and took a step back.
When Mrs. Lee realized that she had been scared by a four-year-old child, she grew even angrier.
"Coming into a teacher's office and causing trouble at such a young age, you have no manners at all. I'm calling your guardian right now to take you home!"
"Before making that call, Mrs. Lee, why don't you listen to my findings?" Todd jumped off the chair.
He casually picked up a chalk and wrote a few numbers on a small blackboard.
"Mrs. Lee has been a model teacher for eighteen years, and in these eighteen years of her teaching career, her personal assets have multiplied many times over. Out of curiosity, I investigated, and that's when I discovered that Mrs. Lee receives red envelopes from parents every year. The smallest red envelope is worth ten thousand Euros, and the highest is two hundred thousand Euros."
Todd coldly curled his lips. "Over the years, the total sum of these red envelopes adds up to over four million five hundred sixty thousand Euros. According to the law, this money has been obtained through illegal means."
"Okay, the amount is huge and could potentially constitute a criminal offense."
Mrs. Lee's face turned pale in that instant.
She moved her lips and said, "You, you're talking nonsense!"
"Since Mrs. Lee thinks I'm talking nonsense, then I'll submit the evidence I found to the Education Bureau. I believe they will investigate it thoroughly."
Upon hearing Todd's words, Mrs. Lee was so angry that she almost fainted.
The other people in the office took a step back, distancing themselves from Mrs. Lee as if she were a plague.
Todd sneered, "Don't pretend anymore. I've looked into it. Although the bribes you all received may not be as much as Mrs. Lee's, once it reaches the Education Bureau, you won't be able to work in the education industry anymore."
The teachers present all had a change in expression.
Five or six people exchanged glances and saw panic in each other's eyes.
Accepting red envelopes as a teacher was an unwritten rule in the industry, and everyone knew it.
However, once it was blown up, they would definitely lose their jobs.
This was one of Cuenca's top aristocratic preschools, where the monthly salary was five or six times higher than other preschools. How could they bear to give up such a decent and well-paying job?
A younger teacher took a deep breath and spoke, "Todd, teachers accept red envelopes to reassure parents. It's an unwritten rule that exists in every preschool. There's no benefit in making a fuss about it."
"I don't need any benefits. I just want those who underestimate my sister to pay the price," Todd said coldly.
"Of course, I know it's normal to accept red envelopes. But once this normal thing is exposed, everyone involved will be punished. If you don't want it to escalate, you must agree to my three conditions."
Several teachers had their weaknesses tightly grasped by Todd. They didn't dare to refuse and could only nod their heads reluctantly.
"First, no more discussing my sister behind her back."
"Second, no more looking at my sister with strange eyes."
"Third, if any child mocks my sister, you must educate them properly."
Todd calmly returned to Class 9.
Heidi heaved a sigh of relief. "I was just about to look for you. Where did you go?"
"I went to the restroom."
Todd entered the classroom and sat next to Angela.
Heidi looked at him and always felt that the aura emanating from this child was incredibly strong.
Sometimes, she didn't dare to look directly into his eyes.
But Todd was polite and obedient. When he spoke, his voice was gentle and sweet, as if all that aura had been her imagination.
During the break in this class, Heidi was called out by Mrs. Lee.
Five or six teachers surrounded her and whispered in low voices.
"Even though Todd's sister has autism, our school has experience in this area. If you don't understand anything, feel free to ask me."
Todd and Angela walked into the house.
As they entered, Haley couldn't help but feel relieved. She had noticed how Heidi interacted with Angela earlier, and she was worried that Angela might be upset.
However, it seemed that Angela had accepted Heidi's gestures without any problem.
It appeared that the preschool, as her cousin had previously mentioned, truly treated every child fairly and impartially. This assurance brought a sense of relief to Haley.
First, they drove to the local market to buy the freshest ingredients, and then they made a stop at the supermarket to purchase some snacks for the children. Finally, they returned home.
Despite Angela's autism, she had an independent and self-reliant personality. As soon as they arrived home, Angela sat on the carpet and started playing with a puzzle, remaining quiet and peaceful.
Todd followed alongside Haley, grateful for the day's events, entered the kitchen and helped with washing vegetables.
Although he was only four years old, he could basically do any household chores. When Haley was busy, he would even make lunch for his sister.
Haley cooked while talking to her son, trying to understand what happened at preschool today.
Just then, her phone suddenly vibrated.
