Chapter 397 Cyber Attack

Vanguard Corporation had just established its operations in Cuenca, securing a lease on an office building. However, the assembly of the project team was still pending.

The day's significant bidding event necessitated recruitment not only for the chief programming designer but also for process control managers, product operations experts, an end-to-end planning team, technical consultants, and various other positions.

Bidding Room 1 sprawled across hundreds of square feet, densely packed with bidders, each a top-tier professional brimming with confidence and ambition.

In the last row sat Haley, her gaze tranquil, her demeanor poised. Nearby, Thalia Iris, a tad nervous, found solace in Haley's composed presence.

A man seated beside Thalia Iris leaned in, introducing himself, "Hello, I am the General Manager of Infinity Corporation. I'm bidding for the position of on-site controller. And you?" He handed over his business card with genuine sincerity.

Haley smiled in response, "I'm here to bid for the lead chip development designer position. It's a pleasure to meet you."

The man seemed surprised. "Are you Mrs. Lumi?"

Haley shook her head, puzzled. "Why do you ask?"

Adjusting his glasses, the man explained, "I've been in touch with Vanguard Corporation for six months now, and I heard the Chief Chip Designer position was reserved half a year ago."

Frowning, Haley queried, "If it was predetermined, why include it in the promotional brochure?"

"I'm not certain." The man rubbed his head, feeling uneasy under Haley's gaze, "But I've heard Mrs. Lumi is remarkably skilled in chip design, possibly even teaching at Cambridge University. That's why Vanguard Corporation favored her…"

Haley wracked her brain for any mention of a Professor Zhuang from Cambridge University but found none. Despite her Harvard background and collaborations with Cambridge, the name remained unfamiliar.

Sensing Haley's hesitation, the man suggested, "There might be an opening for a Chief Designer's assistant. You could consider that…"

"Thank you, I'll keep that in mind." Haley nodded gratefully, studying the Vanguard Corporation brochure once more.

Just then, the auction host rushed onto the stage, his face apologetic. "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm terribly sorry, but our bidding system has encountered some trouble, and we might not be able to proceed with the live bidding today. The specifics of the next auction date and location will be announced later..."

A slightly bald man in the front row stood up confidently and said, "A system problem? Leave it to me; it'll be fixed in five minutes."

However, the host revealed it was no ordinary glitch but a cyber attack crippling Vanguard Corporation's internal network, making their website a victim of trending cybercrime. Within minutes, all funds were siphoned away, leaving disappointed bidders in the hall.

Despite technical expertise among the bidders, they lacked hacking skills, leading many to depart after witnessing the chaos.

"Let's leave, Haley," Thalia Iris whispered, packing her documents.

Haley shook her head faintly. "Wait for me outside."

With determined steps in her high heels, she strode down the corridor toward Vanguard Corporation's offices, finding the staff in a frenzy.
