Chapter 261 Unspoken Secrets

"Owen, get up, the floor is cold."

Alfred hurried over, picked Owen up off the floor, and sat him on the couch.

He spoke with weighted concern, "Ms. Angela was enjoying her dessert, Owen. When you pounced on her, you got whipped cream on your sleeve. She was just trying to protect your clothes from getting dirty, that's why she pushed you away."

"Is that true?" Owen looked at Angela with wide eyes, seeking confirmation.

Angela kept her head down, continuing to nibble at her pastries. Her brows were furrowed, and no one could glimpse the emotions hidden in the depths of her eyes.

Owen, however, sensed that Angela no longer seemed to like him.

In the past, Angela might have remained silent around him, but she would gaze into his eyes with those big, dark pupils reflecting his image, a sight that filled him with contentment. Now, he felt as if his entire world had turned to shades of grey.

After comforting Owen, Alfred immediately sat next to Angela and continued to coax her, "Ms. Angela, have some water, don't choke."

Owen was silent, feeling a surge of neglect.

His heart heavy with disappointment, Owen approached Todd and muttered, "Hey, was it you?"

Todd looked up, his brow furrowed in confusion. "What?"

"Angela doesn't seem to like me anymore. Did you talk trash about me to her?"

"Do you think I'm that childish?" Todd scoffed. "Angela doesn't like it when people cling too much. You probably got too close."

Tears almost spilled from Owen's eyes. "I wasn't clinging too much. I just wanted to hug her, but she pushed me away. I fell and it hurt like hell, and she didn't even come over to help me up... It must be you, Todd. Otherwise, she wouldn't have turned against me! I despise you!"

Todd just looked away, not engaging any further.

He had noticed last night that his sister seemed reluctant to interact with Owen.

He wondered when it started. It seemed to begin after that incident with Emily at the Winston residence. He didn't understand the sudden shift in Angela's attitude.

Closing his piano score, Todd slowly walked over to Angela and said, "Angela, don't eat too much. We have dinner later. You'll be too full."

"It's fine, indulging once in a while won't hurt," Alfred chimed in with a chuckle. Watching Angela enjoyed her dessert was quite the treat.

Todd reached out indifferently and took the chocolate cake away from her.

Angela puffed out her cheeks and glared at Todd. Before long, she yielded, placing her spoon neatly on her plate.

"I'll save these for after dinner, now I'll just pop them in the fridge." Alfred collected the array of desserts and walked away.

Todd sat next to Angela and asked softly, "Is something wrong?"

Angela's eyes were blank as if she didn't quite understand his question.

Todd's gaze lightly swept across the room where Owen lay sulking on the couch.

Darkness clouded Angela's eyes momentarily.

Her chubby hands propped up her chin. Her pink lips pressed tightly together.

She had never shown such an expression in all her life.

Todd frowned.

Initially, he thought his sister Angela had argued with Owen, but now a keen awareness crept in that things might not be so simple.

"Angela, you can talk to me," Todd said slowly, his voice carrying a hint of gentle persuasion.

The little girl's delicate eyebrows furrowed, her fair face crinkling.

She let out a sigh, turned her shoulder, and gripped Todd’s hand.

Her plump fingers slowly traced a few words into the palm of Todd's hand.

"His mom is Emily."

The little girl meticulously spelled out four words in two minutes.

After finishing, the siblings exchanged a glance.
