Chapter297

As dusk settled, the night sky was pitch black.

Dinner had been a delightful affair for all.

Haley, holding on to the two children, walked to the door. "Todd, Angela, say goodbye to your Grandpa Joe and Mr. Ivan."

Todd obediently chirped, "Bye, Grandpa Joe, bye Mr. Ivan."

Angela pursed her pink lips and gave a small wave of her hand.

"Haley, come over earlier tomorrow night so that we can play before dinner!" Owen's eyes sparkled. "Angela, I'll buy a new puzzle tomorrow, and we can do it together, okay?"

The little girl stared at him for a few seconds before nodding gently.

Ivan offered with a dispassionate tone, "Let me drive you home."

"No," Haley shook her head. "I drove here. I'll be fine on my own. You don't have to see us out, Mr. Ivan."

After saying that, she led the children out of the mansion, opened the car door, and buckled Angela in.

As she was fastening the kids' seat belts, she could feel a burning gaze on her from behind.

During dinner, that same man had been watching her with a strange intensity, his eyes dark as ink, masking emotions she couldn't decipher.

Haley quickly got into the car, started the engine, and sped away.

The Winston family's hillside mansion was reached via a winding two-way mountain road, a hallmark of an affluent neighborhood where traffic was sparse.

She raced down the mountain, only to spot a familiar figure by the roadside at the foot of the hill.

Slowing down, she glanced at the children's faces, her eyes narrowing.

It was that boy.

The boy who once saved her and deceived her, claiming to be Emily's son.

Haley slowly pulled over.

Turning to Todd, she said, "Take care of your sister. I'll be right back."

Todd also noticed Keith.

He turned his head, looking at the little girl beside him.

Fortunately, she was dozing off with closed eyes, oblivious to the stranger outside.

Despite Ivan's words earlier, Todd was still reluctant to have his sister in contact with the Winston brothers.

Keith stood by the roadside, the cool autumn breeze brushing against his cheeks, making him shiver, hands in his pockets, standing there with an air of sternness.

"What's wrong?" A cool voice came from behind him.

He spun around, and upon seeing Haley's face, a flicker of light appeared in his bottomless dark eyes.

The glimmer vanished into the ether in an instant.

He spoke with an unfazed calm, "The car broke down, and the driver's working on it."

After becoming a mother, Haley developed a great tolerance for unruly teenagers.

Even though this kid had schemed against her and that he was Emily's son, she couldn't just stand by and watch.

She asked, "Where are you going? I can give you a ride."

"No, thanks."

Keith stood there with his hands in his pockets, cold and distant.

While Haley was patient with kids, she wasn't one to chase after someone who clearly wanted to be left alone.

She simply said, "Be careful, then." She took one last look at Keith and turned to get back into her car.

Suddenly, the sound of a motorcycle's engine roared in the distance.

The winding mountain road was seldom traveled, making it a hotspot for the sons and daughters of the wealthy to bikes.

Especially late at night, you might not see another car for half an hour, and it was common to see bikers racing at this hour.

Now, a motorcycle with blinding headlights was approaching fast.

Keith's car was blocking half of the intersection, and as Haley and he stood by the roadside, the motorcycle attempted to squeeze through the tight gap without slowing down.

The motorcycle came hurtling toward them, its speed unrelenting.

Haley instinctively pulled Keith into her arms, and they both rolled off the road and into the grass nearby.
