Chapter 379

"So, you'll really do anything I ask?" Emily's lips curled up as her gaze shone coldly in the darkness.

Haley nodded calmly with the condition., "As long as you let Keith go."

"Fine, as long as you do as I say, I will let Keith go and ensure he's unharmed," Emily promised as she playfully tousled Keith's hair, chuckling. "I'm not after your life. Just I'll just ruin that pretty face of yours, and I'll give Keith back to you."

Her eyes drifted overgaze slid across Haley's face with an intensity akin.

It was like a knife, wishing to a sharp blade, as if silently yearning to strip awaycarve the skin fromoff Haley's cheeks.

Ever since they were young, Haley had been the belle of both her classroom and her school. Wherever she went, she seemed to overshadow Emily.

Friends and acquaintances, when they spoke of the two sisters, would always say Haley was prettier, Haley had more grace...

Even when Haley wasn't with her, people would say, "Emily is beautiful, but her sister is even lovelier..."

If only Haley hadn't had such a beautiful face. That would have been so much better.

Emily pulled out a fruit knifepocketknife from her bag and tossed it to Haley.: "Hurry up, I don't have that much patience."

The factory lacked lighting, but just outside, the ocean was present, and a row of dim streetlights lined the dock, their light streaming in through the windows and casting a cold reflection on the fruit knife.

Haley picked up the fruit knife from the ground.

Lifting her eyes softly, she asked, "If I ruin my face, will you let Keith go?"

"Stop stalling and wasting time!" Emily shouted impatiently.

Haley took the fruit knife in her hand and slowly brought it near her right cheek.

"Don't..." Keith's voice was hoarse as he spoke, "Haley, after how I've treated you, you shouldn't ruin your face to save me..."

Haley smiled gently and said, "Keith, close your eyes, be good."

Children shouldn't witness such a bloody scene, for it could leave lifelong psychological scars.

As for her face, there wasn't much to miss anyway.

Being too attractive meant dealing with an abundance of men daily, which could have been a better use of time.

"Haley, I won't be grateful to you for disfiguring yourself for me!" Keith choked out, "I've always disliked you. I don't think that saving me will allow you to be with Ivan and me... Throw away the knife, throw it away!"

He was yelling so loudly that his throat was nearly breaking.

Haley smiled and said, "Keith, continue to dislike me then. It's okay. Just this once, heed my words and close your eyes, okay?"

Keith's eyes were brimming with tears he couldn't hold back, the first he ha'd shed since he ha'd grown up.

"Keith, does it hurt?" Emily said with a crooked smile, "The saying is true. No wonder I could never warm your and Owen's hearts, no matter how hard I tried. You didn't come from me, and no matter how much I give, you'd never see me as your birth mother… I hate that it took me this long to understand that..."

Keith's lips quivered as he asked, "Haley is actually mine and Owen's biological mother, isn't she?"

"Smart indeed, but even with all your smarts, you've been fooled by me for four years!" Emily's laughter abruptly stopped, and her gaze turned cold and angry towards Haley., "If you don't make your move, I'll have no choice but to slash Keith's face!"
