Chapter 867
"Ivan, dude, what the hell's going on?" Thomas asked, dragging out his words. "Why's Haley suddenly digging into that Bio-intelligent Chip stuff the rebels in the Hinterlands are using? What's she after?"
Ivan's voice was deep and serious. "I'll fill you in once I figure it out. I've sent Jared your way."
After hanging up, Ivan shot a message to Jared.
Just then, a delivery showed up at the door. It was the fingerprint membrane Ivan had ordered that morning.
He slapped the fingerprint membrane on his index finger and pulled out a small communicator, pressing his finger against it.
"Connected."
Three seconds later, a deep voice with a foreign accent crackled through the communicator. "Boss, you finally reached out."
Ivan's voice was rough and cold. "Mr. Campbell, how's the research coming along?"
"The new Bio-intelligent Chip is done, and the two prototypes have been destroyed."
Hearing Preston Campbell's words, Ivan's eyes turned icy. The prototypes for the Bio-intelligent Chip were living people, now gone.
Martin's cruelty was pushing Ivan's limits.
"Boss, are we releasing this batch of chips to the market?"
Ivan's fingers drummed on the table as he spoke calmly, "Send me the Bio-intelligent Chip user manual."
Preston sent the file online.
Ivan skimmed through it, his eyes narrowing. "There's no destruction program for the Bio-intelligent Chip once it's in the body?"
Preston sounded surprised. "Boss, isn't the destruction program with you?"
Ivan's lips tightened. "Store this batch of Bio-intelligent Chips for now, wait for my orders."
After hanging up, Ivan sat there thinking for a long time. He looked at the manual, his gaze growing colder, and the temperature in the study seemed to drop.
To implant the Bio-intelligent Chip in the human body, the tiny device, less than a millimeter in size, had to be placed into a blood vessel. The exterior of the Bio-intelligent Chip was made of animal membrane cells, which would quickly decompose and dissolve once inside the body. In other words, three days after implantation, the Bio-intelligent Chip would combine with the human body and could not be removed unless the self-destruct mechanism was triggered.
And the destruction program was controlled by Martin himself.
Ivan pulled himself together in the study before dialing Jared's number.
"Boss, I've already detained Isabel's maid. She'll be in Watertown by tomorrow morning."
Ivan nodded slightly. "Let me talk to Martin."
Jared walked a long way with the phone before pushing open a door. The room was dimly lit, filled with the strong smell of smoke and the lingering scent of recent sexual activity.
Martin was lounging on the sofa, a cigarette between his fingers, looking like he couldn't care less about anything.
Jared placed a laptop on the table in front of him, the screen showing Ivan's face.
Ivan and Martin, the two brothers, stared at each other through the screen.
Martin laughed. "That scar on your face is never gonna fully heal, even with surgery."
