Chapter 899

The phone buzzed outta nowhere. It was a video call from the kids.

Ivan picked up, and there were the kids' faces on the screen.

"Mom, we just started winter break today," Keith blurted out first.

"Mom, the teacher said we got a whole month off. Can we come see you?" Owen asked, his big eyes blinking like crazy.

Haley forced a smile. Devil Martin had just rolled back into Watertown. No way she could risk seeing the kids now.

If Martin bumped into them, he'd probably see them as a pain in the neck.

"I'm super swamped right now, and I probably won't have time to take care of you," Haley said, trying to keep her smile gentle. "Christmas is just around the corner. How about your dad and I come back to spend it with you?"

Angela tilted her head, "I've never celebrated Christmas before."

Todd jumped in, "We did celebrate Christmas abroad, but Angela was too young and forgot."

"This year will be my first time celebrating Christmas with Mom," Owen clapped his hands, all excited. "Mom, what do you want for Christmas? I'll get it ready."

Haley chuckled, "As long as you guys are healthy and happy, I'm good."

"No, Mom, you gotta pick something," Owen insisted. "A scarf, a hat, maybe some clothes?"

Haley felt a warm fuzzy feeling inside. She knew she had to cut the convo short, though, or it might trigger the command.

She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, just as Todd squinted, "Mom, what happened to your hand?"

Haley's freshly bandaged wound was bleeding again, making the white gauze look kinda scary.

She quickly hid her hand in her sleeve and smiled, "I just cut myself chopping veggies today. It's no biggie, I've already put some medicine on it."

Todd nodded, pursing his lips, then looked at Ivan, "Dad, I've made some progress on that program you wanted me to crack."

Ivan's brows furrowed as he picked up the phone, "Tell me more."

"I can't crack the original program yet, but I can tweak the commands using some hacking tricks," Todd said slowly. "Dad, can I meet that guy you mentioned? I wanna give it a shot."

Ivan was quiet for a few seconds before nodding, "I'll have someone pick you up later."

After hanging up, Ivan turned to Haley, "Haley, let Todd give it a shot. Maybe he can really tweak the program in your body."

Haley looked down at her injured hand, "Won't Todd figure it out?"

"Haley, Todd's a smart kid. He and Keith must've sensed something's off," Ivan said seriously. "Otherwise, why have the four kids been so quiet for the past ten days without coming over?"

Haley bit her lip. Todd was so smart and sensitive.

She'd moved out of the Winston Family home half a month ago and hadn't seen the kids for so many days, which was already weird.

But Todd didn't ask anything, and Keith had convinced Angela and Owen to stay put.

Todd must've figured it out long ago, but since she didn't say anything, he didn't ask either. Todd probably couldn't hold it in any longer.

Haley nodded, "Alright, let Todd give it a try."

It wasn't dark yet when Todd arrived. The other kids wanted to come too, but Keith managed to keep them at home.

Todd followed the bodyguard to the door and looked up to see Haley sitting on the couch in the living room.

Haley was in loose loungewear, which hung off her, making her look even thinner.

This was the first time Todd and Haley had been apart for so long—thirteen whole days without seeing each other.

"Mom."

Todd had been trying to stay cool, but as soon as he spoke, tears started streaming down.
