Chapter 581
When Madam Martinez started asking, Haley's eyes welled up with tears.
Haley sniffed and swallowed the sudden grievance, lowering her gaze. "We didn't fight."
She hadn't exchanged a single word with Ivan, so there was no chance for an argument.
"Haley, do you feel upset because Ivan didn’t come home with you?" Madam Martinez patted her hand and said, "I've seen the news. On the day of your wedding, the Winston family church had an incident which was caused by deliberate arson. Ivan needs time to investigate this matter. Also, because of your wedding, he has put all his work on hold. After the wedding, he naturally needs time to catch up on work progress. His business trip is also for a better future together with you. Don't be sad. Just wait patiently for him to return."
Haley remained silent with her head bowed. She was mature and wouldn't ask Ivan not to work just to be with her.
She felt sad because Ivan had changed completely before and after marriage.
Before marriage, Ivan was so caring and cherished, but after, he became distant and indifferent.
He wouldn't be this indifferent even to strangers.
"Haley, I can see that Ivan truly loves you," Madam Martinez continued. "He has done so much for you. Do you still doubt his love for you?"
Haley's fingers paused.
Scenes of their time together flashed through her mind.
Although Haley and Ivan hadn't known each other for long, they had been through a lot together.
Ivan had risked his life for her, yet she found herself questioning his feelings for her.
Perhaps one day Ivan might change his mind, but he couldn't stop loving her overnight.
Haley realized she might have been overthinking things. Maybe Ivan had more important matters to attend to.
"Grandma, I understand." Haley smiled and said, "I and Ivan are doing well, so please don't worry."
Madam Martinez also smiled as she said, "That's good to hear. Take the kids home, and then give Ivan a call to talk things out."
Haley nodded, walked to the door, and saw four children playing tag in the yard.
It was Todd's turn to chase. Like a galloping little white horse, he swiftly caught Owen by the collar.
"Todd, you're running too fast, and I wasn't ready. Let's start over!"
Owen began to pout.
Todd loosened his grip and said, "Okay, I'll give you another chance."
Owen tried to run, but before he could take a step, Todd caught him by the collar again.
Owen grumbled unhappily as he said, "Not fun at all. You're running too fast, and you're not allowed to play this game!"
Todd replied, "That's not for you to decide. Now, it's your turn to catch us!"
Todd turned and ran, reaching a safe distance before teasing Owen. "Come on, Owen, try to catch me if you can!"
Todd's smile shone brightly in the evening sun.
Haley couldn't help but smile from the heart.
Todd had finally become a happy and innocent child, able to play joyfully like a normal kid.
This was probably the happiest thing for Haley in these past few days.
"Kids, let's head home."
