Chapter 520
As she approached, she realized that today's Thomas was particularly different.
His eyes were bloodshot, looking like he hadn't slept all night. The usually image-conscious playboy had a wrinkled suit, messy beard, a cigarette between his fingers, and his gaze passed through the corridor, landing softly on Haley.
"What happened to you?" Haley frowned. "What's going on again?"
Every time this guy Thomas came to Watertown to find her, it was never for good reasons, and she had gotten used to it.
"I heard you're getting engaged?"
As soon as Thomas spoke, his voice was hoarse and broken, as if his throat had been scratched by small stones.
Haley was taken aback.
She understood why Thomas was like this.
Some things had been said many times before, but obviously, Thomas hadn't really taken them to heart.
She pursed her lips and said, "I'm getting married to Ivan. The engagement is on the 6th of next month, and the wedding won't be too far after that. If you have time, you can stay in Watertown to attend the engagement ceremony before leaving."
Thomas chuckled bitterly.
He had long known that there was no possibility between him and Haley, and he had long accepted this fact.
But two days ago, when he saw her being forcibly kissed by Ivan, his heart felt like it had been stabbed with a knife, and he didn't know how to deal with the pain.
So, he went to the bar to get drunk, only to wake up and realize that Haley had sent him to the hotel.
In the past, when he got drunk, she would either take him home and leave him on the living room sofa or throw him into a guest room to fend for himself.
Back then, he felt like she didn't see him as a person.
Now she saw him as a person, but she would never take him home again.
Because she was getting married, because she had someone else to be with, because she didn't want another man to misunderstand...
Thomas chuckled bitterly. "During those four years abroad, no matter what man pursued you, you didn't care. I thought you were a single-minded person, but it turns out you just hadn't met the one you wanted to marry."
Haley looked at him quietly. "You will also meet the woman you want to marry."
But it would never be her.
The bitterness in Thomas's mouth grew stronger.
In order to legitimately enter her world, he kept finding girlfriends to numb her nerves, to deepen his relationship with her.
But later, those women became a wall between him and her, and he no longer had the right to stand by her side.
Thomas swallowed the bitterness in his mouth, chuckled lightly, and said nonchalantly, "Although Ivan is not as handsome as me, and the Ellenstein family is not as wealthy, but since you like him, I will naturally attend your engagement ceremony. You must treat me well then!"
Seeing him like this, Haley knew he should be slowly letting go.
She smiled and said, "Okay, I'll prepare your favorite dishes and your favorite drinks."
She glanced at the time on her wrist, "I have to go to the cafeteria to buy breakfast, do you want me to bring you some?"
Thomas shook his head, "I have things to do, I'll be leaving soon, you go ahead."
As Haley's figure disappeared in front of him, the smile on Thomas's face faded little by little.
As long as she could be happy, that was better than anything.
As he turned to leave, a figure suddenly emerged from the corner of the corridor.
"Thomas, aren't you proud in front of me? How come you can't even protect your own woman?"
Ava sneered as she walked over. "Didn't you say she was your girlfriend? How come you're just watching as your girlfriend is about to marry someone else?"
