Chapter 326
Haley was cleaning up the shattered pieces on the kitchen floor when she abruptly turned at the sound of Keith's voice.
Her stoic, cold expression slowly started to blend with the memory of a small, bruised baby face from four years ago.
This was her eldest son, the one born with his eyes closed.
Tears burst from Haley's eyes.
"Mommy, what's wrong?" Todd rushed into the kitchen, hastily wiping away Haley's tears.
"It's nothing!" Haley bowed her head, forcing the tears back. "I just rubbed my eyes with the hand I used to cut some hot peppers..."
"Haley, let me blow on it..." Owen walked in and cozied up next to Haley, puckering his lips gently to blow on her eyes.
Angela stepped into the kitchen and wrapped an arm around Haley, joining in the gentle breeze.
Haley's heart softened as she embraced her three children, whispering, "Mommy's fine."
The scene in the kitchen inexplicably tugged at Keith's heartstrings.
He, too, longed to lean into Haley's embrace.
However, he felt like he didn't have the right. He had attacked Haley's company, plotted against her, and harbored hatred toward her.
Keith stood still, unable to step forward.
Suddenly, Haley's gaze swept over.
His heart skipped a beat. Trying to appear calm, he stood still, but his hands clenched slowly at his sides.
"So, you're the brainy big brother Owen always talks about," Haley said with a tender smile, "This is our first official meeting, and I'm not sure how to address you." Her voice was gentle, like the rain of an autumn day, dripping softly into his heart.
Keith's tension eased, and he barely murmured, "Just call me by my name."
Haley paused in thought.
Owen, holding Angela's hand, headed for the living room. "Angela, I got you some more fun building blocks today."
Todd and Keith exchanged a look, their unspoken words clearing the air of contention.
Ivan strode into the kitchen with purposeful steps.
As he entered, Alfred tactfully led the chefs out, leaving space for the two of them.
"Why have you suddenly decided to come to the Winston residence?" Ivan stood behind Haley, his voice slowly rising.
Haley paused in her chopping, then answered indifferently, "I've been very busy these days, that's why I couldn't make it. Now that I'm done, I naturally have to keep my promise."
