Chapter 818 The Recognition Party
Owen kicked the door open, hands on his hips, and shouted fiercely yet childishly, "My mommy isn't the member of the Deross family, so why should she bear the responsibility of the Deross family? And my mommy is not a joke to anyone, so stop talking nonsense here!"
Ruby's face turned quite unpleasant. It was bad enough that Haley's child overheard her badmouthing, but now she was being scolded by a four-year-old Owen.
She was about to speak when Todd interrupted.
His cold eyes fell on the pale-faced Brenda, "Grandma, Why didn't you stop her talking nonsense?"
Brenda's heart trembled under Todd's gaze.
She took a deep breath and said, "We were talking about someone else, it has nothing to do with your mommy. You've all misunderstood."
"Grandma, Mommy really isn't part of the Deross family," Angela said, blinking her eyes. "Mommy's real father is my grandfather, Cauth. He's hosting a party three days later, but Grandma, you can't attend because you're sick. Ruby could go and see for herself."
Angela's voice was soft, but it carried a firm strength.
Brenda was taken aback.
Such an important event, and she had no idea about it.
The recognition party was just three days away, and she still didn't know who Haley's biological father was.
And it was clear that Haley hadn't planned to invite her.
Brenda closed her eyes. "You can all go out now. I'm feeling a bit tired."
Ruby, under siege from the children, felt a bit overwhelmed. She hadn't even taken a sip of her coffee. Standing up, she said, "You should rest. I'll be going now, and I'll come to visit you again in a few days."
With that, Ruby turned and left.
Keith stood bedside and said in a calm voice, "Dad hasn't been back for long, and both the Winston family and the Winston Group still have Martin's forces lurking, making the situation very dangerous. Mom doesn't plan to invite anyone from the Winston family, not Dad or Grandma."
Keith's words were explanatory.
Brenda nodded. "I understand. You can all go out now."
The children retreated from the room, gently closing the door behind them.
Seeing the four children come downstairs, Haley remarked casually, "Why did Ruby leave so soon after you guys went up?"
"Mommy, don't associate with Ruby anymore," Owen pouted. "She was saying bad things about you to Grandma!"
Haley was surprised. "Saying bad things about me?"
"Yes, bad things about Mommy. She's a big bad wolf, a witch!" Owen huffed. "She's not welcome in our house anymore!"
Haley shook her head with a smile. "She's your grandma's guest. As long as your grandma wants, she can come in."
Without the children telling her, she could guess what kind of bad things Ruby had said about her.
After all, just over twenty days ago, to keep Martin at bay, she had deliberately done many unpopular things that made the news.
Those news stories also had some negative impact on the Winston family.
Ruby must have said something to Brenda, and the children had overheard it. Probably, they had said something unpleasant that made Ruby leave in a huff.
Haley didn't dwell on it. She and the children were washing vegetables when Ivan came home.
