Chapter 836
Haley rolled her eyes, feeling the sarcasm bubbling up inside her.
Even though his wife got a beatdown, Marcus, her so-called hubby, showed up to say sorry.
Sure, Barbara messed up, but it was clear Marcus was just using her as a pawn, making her look kinda pathetic.
Haley couldn't wrap her head around how their marriage was still a thing.
"I'll treat you to a nice lunch today, so don't hold a grudge against Barbara," Marcus said, grinning like he just won the lottery.
With that smile plastered on his face, Marcus's mind was racing a mile a minute.
He'd swung by the Martinez place yesterday and had a chat with Amara. Turns out, Haley and Ivan weren't divorced at all.
And from what Amara said, Haley and Ivan seemed to be getting along just fine.
Even if they did split, Haley was still the mom of the future Winston family heir, so ticking her off wasn't a smart move.
Plus, Haley was from the Lumi Family.
The Miller Group had a project going with the Lumi Group. If Marcus could get on Haley's good side, this project could be a goldmine. Swallowing his pride a bit for a long-term win? No-brainer.
Haley asked with a sly smile, "So, how'd you punish Barbara?"
"Her mouth's always getting her in trouble, so I gave her a few slaps, making sure she wouldn't dare to talk crap in front of you again," Marcus said, puffing up like he deserved a medal.
Haley's face turned icy.
She wasn't a fan of Barbara, but she hated guys like Marcus even more—cheating on their wives and still treating them like dirt.
Haley said coldly, "The matters between Barbara and me are none of your concern. You can leave now."
Not catching her frosty vibe, Marcus kept grinning, "I've got a table booked at the restaurant downstairs. Come join me for lunch."
Haley's face stayed stone-cold, "No thanks, I'm too swamped to eat with you."
With that, she walked out of the room.
Marcus scratched his chin, finally getting that Haley had shut him down.
As a big shot in Watertown, people usually lined up to have dinner with Marcus, but Haley just blew him off?
Marcus stormed out of Star Technical Company. As soon as he hit the street, his side chick, Celine Murphy, sidled up to him, "Marcus, how'd it go?" she asked.
"That chick's too full of herself!" Marcus grumbled, wrapping an arm around Celine's slim waist, "Forget it, I don't need the Lumi Family's business that bad."
"Marcus, if you nail that big project with the Lumi Family, you'll outshine your brothers in the Miller family. Only an idiot would pass that up!" Celine's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Tell me what went down, and maybe I can help."
Marcus gave her a playful smack on the butt and spilled the details about his meeting with Haley.
"So, when Haley found out you slapped Barbara a few times, she got all frosty," Celine said, piecing it together. "Haley hates Barbara's guts. You probably went too easy on Barbara. Haley could've done that herself."
Marcus scratched his chin, "So, what do you suggest?"
"Marcus, we should..."
They huddled together, whispering their next move.
