Chapter 52 Finding Out the Truth

Haley's head was still a little dizzy. After explaining the situation to the Winston Group, she was ready to call Thomas. Given her current condition, she probably couldn't go to preschool for the time being, so she had to ask Thomas to pick up the child. Before she could make the call, her phone rang again.

"Ms. DeRoss, hello. I'm the secretary of the Winston Group. May I ask if something happened this afternoon?"

Haley pressed her forehead and said, "I'm feeling a bit unwell, currently getting an infusion at the hospital. I apologize."

"Well, take good care and we can talk about cooperation when you've recovered."

The secretary politely hung up the phone and was about to turn around to knock on the CEO's office door when she saw Ivan standing behind her.

She was startled and quickly reported, "Mr. Winston, Ms. DeRoss is at the hospital. She probably won't make it today."

Ivan nodded and walked toward the elevator. The secretary, with wide eyes, watched him leave. Daringly, he chased after them.

"Mr. Winston, part of your schedule this afternoon was arranged for tonight at 7 o'clock, and the meeting is in half an hour, you..."

"We'll meet tomorrow." Ivan coldly pressed the door-close button.

The secretary was sweating profusely. He couldn’t help wondering how Ms. DeRoss managed to make the usually calm Mr. Winston so anxious?

Haley was, still, at the hospital. After the infusion, her body had recovered quite a bit. She was sitting by the bed, having dinner, when Thomas entered with her two children.

"Mommy, are you okay?" Todd walked up to the bedside; his face filled with concern as he asked.

Haley smiled and gently touched his face, "Mommy just caught a little cold, I came and got some IV fluids, and soon I'll be fine."

“Todd didn’t believe me. I said it was just a cold, but he insisted on coming to the hospital!”

Thomas plopped down beside the bed, "Haley, this is my first time in Cuenca, and as soon as I arrived, I became a nanny for your children. How unlucky can I get?"

Haley glanced at him with a roll of her eyes, "If you don't want to be a nanny, you can leave my house tonight."

"Angela, your Mommy is bullying me again!" Thomas lifted the little girl as a shield, "Uncle Thomas is truly miserable, no one cares for him, no one loves him. I'll have to sleep on the streets tonight."

Todd silently stepped back, his Mom had always been in good health, rarely catching a cold. And even if she did, she would just buy some medicine and not come to the hospital. But now, Mom was lying in bed, having received at least four bottles of IV fluids.

What had happened? Todd's heart felt a little uneasy, so he quietly walked out of the ward and knocked on the attending doctor's door.

"Doctor Zhang, hello, I'm Haley's son from bed number six. My Mom asked me to come and ask if she can be discharged tonight."

He was cute, handsome, and polite, making a good impression on the doctor, who patiently replied, "Your Mom inhaled a high dose of diazepam and needs to be observed overnight before discharge. However, if there's something urgent, we can arrange for her discharge tonight."

"Thank you, doctor. I'll go and inform my Mom right away." Todd thanked him with a smile and turned to leave the office.

As soon as he left, the smile on his face disappeared completely. Diazepam was a medication that could cause fainting and was used to treat mental illnesses. How could Mom have inhaled an overdose of it? Could it be that someone had tampered with it?
