Chapter 837
After wrapping up the morning grind, Haley, Ariana, and a few work buddies headed downstairs to grab some grub.
As they hit the restaurant entrance, Haley spotted Marcus chilling by the window with some chick dressed to the nines.
This girl was all over Marcus, her chest squished against his arm, while his hand was getting real familiar with her waist and hips. Haley figured if they weren't in public, they'd probably be going at it right there.
She deadpanned, "Let's bounce somewhere else."
Before she could turn around, Marcus noticed her and hustled over. "Haley, come on, join us. I've been waiting for you."
Seeing his grinning mug made Haley's skin crawl. She shot back, "I'm busy."
"Haley, let's just eat together. You gotta eat, right?" Marcus said, trying to butter her up. "I need to talk to you about something important."
"Mrs. Deross, Marcus just wants to make it up to you," Celine chimed in, whispering, "Barbara was out of line talking about her dead aunt in public. That slap you gave her was totally deserved."
Haley felt a wave of nausea.
She really didn't want to deal with these two, but if they were gonna push, she wasn't gonna hold back.
"You think you're any better than Barbara?" Haley snapped. "Why be a homewrecker in your twenties? Didn't your parents teach you not to mess up other people's families?"
"I..." Celine was stunned, feeling the heat from the stares around her, and couldn't say a word.
Marcus's face darkened, "Haley, what are you talking about?"
"Mr. Miller, don't use Barbara to get close to me. I'll handle her myself 'cause I can't stand her. If you actually protected and loved her, maybe we could be cool. But now," Haley sneered, "the people I despise the most are guys who beat their wives and keep side chicks!"
The restaurant crowd started clapping.
"Well said!"
"These shameless young girls always wrecking families!"
Haley smirked.
This era was like that. It was always the woman's fault, no matter what.
As a guy, Marcus barely got any flak.
Haley shot Marcus a cold look and left the restaurant with Ariana.
Marcus, surrounded by gawkers, was fuming. He slapped Celine across the face. "I shouldn't have listened to you and waited for Haley here. You've made me look like a fool! Get lost!"
Celine held her face, shocked. "Marcus, how dare you hit me? Didn't you say you'd treat me well forever? I must've been blind to fall for a jerk like you!"
Marcus looked annoyed. "Get away from me! Just seeing you pisses me off!"
He had too many side chicks, swapping them out every month. Celine had stuck around a bit longer, like half a year, and started meddling in his business.
If Celine hadn't insisted on coming today, would he have been publicly roasted by Haley?
