Chapter 849
Snow was coming down again, those perfect little flakes landing on the balcony and sticking to the window.
Ivan knew Haley loved snow. Last big snowfall, she was out on the balcony at the crack of dawn, scooping up snow like a kid.
But now? Haley couldn't care less about the snow outside.
The snow kept piling up, covering the balcony in a thick layer.
After what felt like forever, Haley finally turned her head and said, "Ivan, it's snowing."
Ivan's heart, which had been in knots, finally relaxed.
He walked over, pulled Haley into a hug, and whispered, "Yeah, it's snowing. It's getting colder. You should chill at home tomorrow and let your team handle stuff."
Haley, snuggled in his arms, said, "I gotta do myself."
She yawned, checked her watch, and was shocked, "How is it already 2 AM?"
Ivan, holding her close, said softly, "It was late when we got back. Time to hit the sack."
He helped Haley to bed, tucked her in, and turned off the light.
Haley nestled in Ivan's arms, a dull pain throbbing at the back of her head. She knew she had lost another hour of memory.
She had no clue what happened during that missing hour, but she didn't want to stress Ivan out with her worries.
Every time, it was her right cheek that hurt.
Probably Isabel had messed with the wound on her right cheek.
Tomorrow, she'd hit up Thomas and get his help tracking down Isabel's remaining crew. Maybe they could figure out what was going on.
That night, neither Haley nor Ivan slept well.
Because of the snow, it got light super early. When Haley woke up, Ivan was already getting dressed.
She leaned against the headboard and yawned, "So sleepy."
"Then go back to sleep," Ivan kissed her forehead, "Forget about work for now."
"I have to go for an on-site inspection today. No time to rest," Haley glanced out the window, "I don't know why it keeps snowing this year. If it keeps up, the project will have to stop."
Ivan fastened his collar button and said softly, "I have a friend coming to Watertown today. Come back early tonight; I want you to meet him."
"Is he a big deal?" Haley asked, "Why do you need me to meet him?"
"You'll see."
Ivan's lips curved into a smile. This friend was a doctor Jared had found, someone who knew some weird witchcraft stuff.
He suspected Haley had been cursed by those Hinterlands folks. He didn't buy into that stuff, but he couldn't ignore the chance that witchcraft might be real. Maybe there were things science couldn't explain.
"Alright, I'll come back early tonight." Haley agreed softly.
After Ivan left, she called Thomas. By the time she was ready and out the door, it was already 10 AM. The snow had stopped, the sun was out, making it another bright, sunny day.
Haley drove straight to the suburban resort. Lester, Maurice, and Bryan were already waiting for her there.
The resort project had hit its second phase. With the locals moved out, the site was being planned and rushed to finish.
