Chapter 303

Chapter 303

Owen sat on the ground, his eyes glistening brightly. They reflected the image of Haley, and he was certain that she would lift him into her arms.

Haley gazed down at him but involuntarily stepped back. For some reason, at that moment, the faces of the two children who had died too soon came unbidden to her mind.

These children, who had perished shortly after birth, were an enduring nightmare, the source of all her pain.

She began to think question why should Emily's son live while her own didn't. Emily's son got to be the cherished young master of the Winston family while her sons could not even get a chance to take a glimpse of this world.

She was doing things out of the ordinary as well.

She had been cooking for Emily's son, treating him as if he were her own. Thinking of this, she didn't know how to face her departed children. Without Emily, her sons would not have met such an early fate.

Suddenly, Haley's eyes reddened.

"Haley, what's wrong?" Owen scrambled to his feet, grabbing Haley's hand and giving it a shake.

Closing her eyes briefly and then reopening them, Haley shook off Owen's grip and said indifferently, "Owen, I might not be able to cook for you anymore."

Owen was stunned. "Why not?"

"I'm too busy with work. Someone else will deliver the meals from now on," Haley said with aloofness. "Todd, Angela, let's head home."

Todd scanned the faces in the room, sensing the tension but not asking questions. He took Angela by the hand and obediently moved to Haley's side.

Angela clutched a pink rabbit plushie, a recent gift from Owen. Fiddling with her new plaything, she quietly followed Todd to the car. Their vehicle vanished from the entrance of the Winston's residence.

"Wah!" Owen burst into loud cries.

Red-eyed, he glared at Ivan and shouted, "It's all your fault! Father, it must be something you did that made Haley leave all of a sudden!"

"Haley is so cold to me; she only said, Owen! She must be mad at me, too! What did I do wrong? I didn't bully Angela, I didn't fight with Todd, I didn't do anything wrong. Why won't Haley pay attention to me anymore."

Owen's crying grew more intense, his sobs nearly causing him to faint.

"Hey, Owen, please stop crying," Alfred said with deep concern, "Haley must have had urgent matters to attend to. She'll probably be back tomorrow. Calm down now; there you go."

"She's not coming back, not ever again," Owen sobbed into Alfred's embrace. "Haley said someone would deliver food tomorrow. She won't come herself anymore." Owen was crying hard. "Why did Haley suddenly stop liking me? Why?"

Alfred was utterly baffled. It had been less than ten minutes since he had exited the kitchen with the chef when he spotted Haley leaving with an ice-cold expression.

Before he could figure out what had happened, Haley had left with Angela in tow. Everything unfolded so quickly.

Alfred sneaked a glance at Ivan.
