Chapter 235

After ending the call, Todd walked over to Angela with a calm expression. “Let’s go get ready for bed,” he told her.

Angela obediently raised her hand and let her big brother lead her upstairs. Todd helped her brush her teeth and wash her face. After that, Todd led her to her bedroom.

The little girl's head was drooping as she sat on the edge of the bed. Eventually, she drifted off to sleep. Todd gently laid her down and tucked her in. After turning off the light, he tiptoed out of the room.

Once back in his room, Todd’s facade of calmness vanished, replaced by tremendous anxiety. If it weren't for Angela needing him, he would be racing to the hospital right now. His fingers flew over the keyboard, quickly pulling up the hospital’s surveillance footage.

A sigh of relief escaped him when he saw Haley was only there for a stomach pump. His eyes settled on Ivan’s face on the monitor, emotions swirling.

This was the biological father of him and Angela. Angela clung to this man, and Todd, too, had once longed for a father’s love.

He would have wanted his mother to be with Ivan if this man had no other children. Alas, disappointment filled Todd's gaze. Clutching his laptop, he sat on the balcony, the dim, warm light casting a severe and focused shadow over him.

Soon, the sky began to brighten.

Haley's eyes fluttered open. The room was dim, lights off, and it took her a moment to register where she was.

“You're awake?” A familiar, deep voice cut through the haze.

With that, Haley's mind sharpened, the previous night's memories rushing back. She sat up abruptly. Other than the lack of strength, her tension was already going down.

“Where am I?” Her voice came out raspy, far rougher than she expected.

Ivan poured her a glass of water and handed it to her. "You've been at the hospital all night. I'll have the doctor check on you, and if everything is fine, you can be discharged."

Haley was taken aback. She had spent the night at the hospital. She must have left Todd worried.

She threw back the covers and swung her legs out of bed. Sensing her concern, Ivan's voice was calm and measured. "I've filled Todd in on the situation. He knows you're here."

Haley paused, then said, "Thanks."

The gratitude from her carried a lot of meaning. It was to thank him for not taking advantage of her last night and bringing her to the hospital. It was for staying by her side throughout the night and informing Todd to give him peace of mind.
"We're even now," Ivan said, standing up with an air of detachment. "I saved your life; you saved Owen's. I'll go call the doctor."

Haley watched him. Her emotions were in turmoil.
