Chapter 880

Haley flashed another smile, this time with a rebellious glint in her eyes.

She smirked and said, "That seven hundred mil? It's an investment I locked down. Got zilch to do with the petrochemical project."

"Yeah, right," Ava shot back, all fired up. "Seven hundred million ain't chump change. Less than ten folks in all of Watertown could cough up that kind of dough. So, who's your sugar daddy?"

Seven hundred million was no joke. Don't let those billion-dollar shares fool you; who's really gonna sell their stock for cold, hard cash?

"Good thing I've got all the resort project docs on me; otherwise, I'd be toast." Haley shook her head with a sly grin, pulled a document from her bag, and slapped it in front of Bark. "Here's the investment contract for the project. Grandpa, see any red flags?"

Bark picked up the paper and blinked in surprise. "The Winston Group is the investor?"

Haley nodded. "Yep, Winston Group's the big fish in this resort project. They're not just in for the initial cash; they're backing us all the way."

"No way!" Ava's eyes nearly popped out. "Didn't you and Ivan split? Why would he throw that kind of money at your project?"

Haley's eyes turned icy. "Who said we split?"

"The news did. Even if you're not divorced, you're on the rocks!" Ava blurted out, "And Ivan's got side chicks. He'd really hand you seven hundred mil? This contract's gotta be bogus, a scam to fool Grandpa."

Bark closed the document, his voice cold. "This document's legit. The seven hundred million is from the Winston Group. Hollis, don't come at me with baseless accusations again."

He'd really thought Haley had swiped company funds, making him drag her over in a hurry.

Feeling like a fool, Bark said, "Haley, sorry for calling you out without proof."

Haley shrugged. "Grandpa, you might wanna check the finance department. Sneaking out seven hundred mil means there's a rat in the house."

She shot a pointed look at Hollis, who looked like she was about to blow a gasket. Just then, her phone buzzed. It was the company. "Ms. Lumi, we found an accountant who exploited a loophole to transfer seven hundred million to an overseas account."

"Got it," Hollis snapped, hanging up furiously.

"Why haven't you fixed such a huge hole in the financial system?" Bark barked. "This was flagged at the shareholders' meeting a month ago, Hollis. Did you just blow it off?"

"Dad, there's a ton of stuff going on. I can't juggle it all," Hollis whined, playing the victim. "I'm just as worried about the missing money. I'll call the cops and get it back."

Hollis had thought Haley was the thief, but it was her own screw-up. She felt like the room was spinning.

"Every cent in the company's accounted for. Since the petrochemical project's funds are MIA, let Ava hustle up the investment herself," Cauth said coldly. "Ava's so talented; she'll figure it out."

Ava's lips quivered with rage, but with Hollis staying mum, she didn't dare pipe up.

"I'll sort this mess out," Hollis said icily. "I wrongly accused Haley without proof. Haley, can you forgive me?"

Haley smirked. "You should apologize first, then I'll think about it."

Hollis was so mad she nearly choked.
