Chapter 739
Leonardo whispered, "It's not safe here. I'll have someone take you back."
Angela immediately grabbed his sleeve. "Daddy, you haven't answered my question yet. I don't want to leave."
Owen almost cried. "Daddy, you don't recognize us, do you? You don't want to acknowledge us. Mommy worked so hard to find you, but you don't remember us. If you send us away, you'll regret it."
Leonardo's heart ached.
He didn't want the kids in danger and needed to figure things out.
If he went back without answers, they'd suffer again. Next time, he might not be so lucky.
"Stop crying." Leonardo awkwardly wiped their tears. "I'll see you once I'm done."
"You're lying!" Owen sobbed. "You don't even remember us. You won't come to find us."
Angela sniffled. "Daddy, I'm really hungry. Can I eat something before we go back?"
Leonardo lowered his voice. "When others are around, don't call me Daddy, okay?"
His expression was serious.
Owen remembered Keith's warning that most people around their Leonardo were enemies.
He nodded. "Okay, Angela and I won't call you Daddy."
"Good." Leonardo patted their heads and told the servants to bring food.
The kids sat at the long table with a dozen sweet dishes in front of them.
Louis hurried in. "Boss, Ms. Deross is outside asking to meet."
Angela and Owen, initially happy, lowered their heads guiltily.
They had sneaked out, planning to return in an hour but forgot.
Haley waited anxiously at the door. Louis quickly returned and led her inside.
"Ms. Deross, Miss Spencer came moments ago but couldn't get in," Louis reported quietly. "The boss executed Isabel's two trusted guards."
Haley asked, "What happened?"
"Two kids appeared and bit Isabel's hand. She ordered the guards to knock out their teeth, and the boss showed up." Louis described. "The boss shot the guards on the spot. This caused a rift with Isabel, and Quillan might take action."
Haley felt a chill.
'If Ivan had been a moment later, the kids might have suffered Isabel's cruelty.'
She took a deep breath, suppressing her fear, and walked into the living room.
From her vantage point, she saw Leonardo gently patting Angela's head, making her laugh.
Such a warm scene—how long had it been since Haley saw something like this?
"I thought the boss was ruthless. I never expected him to like these kids," Louis whispered. "But they've offended Miss Spencer. They might be in danger. I wonder if the boss can protect them."
Haley pressed her lips and stepped into the dining area.
The kids, who had been laughing, immediately lowered their heads, looking guilty.
She noticed Owen's swollen cheek, likely from Isabel's slap.
She'd return that slap someday.
Now wasn't the time to feel sorry for the kids.
Haley walked in. "Mr. Windsor, thanks for taking care of the kids. I'll take them back now."
