Chapter 396 Haley's Bidding
At half-past two in the afternoon, Thalia Iris rapped on the door, signaling the start of their venture. With paperwork in hand, they readied themselves to make their way to the Vanguard Corporation's office in Cuenca.
As they were about to reach the elevator, they ran into Mr. Griffin and his secretary from the neighboring company.
"Mr. Griffin, in such a hurry to go somewhere?" Haley greeted them with a nod and a smile.
Before Mr. Griffin could respond, his secretary interjected, "We're off to meet a client."
Their visit to Vanguard Corporation was for a competitive bid, one with slim odds of success. It didn't warrant much fanfare; they'd reveal the outcome if they clinched the bid.
"I've got a bit of business myself. See you later," Haley acknowledged, nodding.
With that, the two parties departed the office building, each retreating to their respective vehicles, both bound for the same destination.
Half an hour later, as they arrived, Thalia Iris emerged from the car and spotted Mr. Griffin and his secretary also alighting.
Unable to resist a smirk, she remarked, "Mr. Griffin's secretary sure is interesting, claiming they're meeting a client when they're clearly here for the bid. Worried we might compete with them?"
Despite being in different lines of business, the neighboring company seemed unnervingly guarded.
Thalia Iris's comment, though neither loud nor soft, left Mr. Griffin visibly flustered. He shot a glare at his secretary before approaching Haley with a forced cheerfulness. "Haley, what a coincidence; let's go in together."
Haley paid little mind to the situation. Every company had its secrets, and Mr. Griffin's discretion was understandable.
"Is Haley here to bid for the chip distribution by any chance?" Mr. Griffin's secretary inquired with a smile, "I've heard Vanguard Corporation is looking to recruit more than thirty chip distributors in Cuenca. Your chances of winning the bid are pretty high."
That meant if Haley were successful, it would be because there were many opportunities available. But Haley remained silent, opting to follow Mr. Griffin into the conference venue instead.
The building, adorned in opulence, served as Vanguard Corporation's Cuenca office. Despite the early hour, the lobby buzzed with company representatives engaged in animated discussions.
"Haley, the chip dealership bidding is right next door to us," Mr. Griffin exclaimed, his enthusiasm palpable as they made their way. But Haley shook her head. "I am heading to Bidding Room 1."
"Bidding Room 1?" Mr. Griffin paused, puzzled. "Isn't that the venue for the partner recruitment auction? What is Haley doing there?"
Partners held a higher status than dealers, capable of negotiating contract terms directly with Vanguard Corporation. Yet, even securing a dealership agreement was a coveted opportunity for many small businesses.
"Haley, are you sure you're not mistaken?" Mr. Griffin's secretary chuckled. "Bidding Room 1 is hosting a bidding for a lead chip development designer, different from a chip dealership. You might want to double-check."
But Haley remained steadfast. "Thank you for your concern, but I haven't made a mistake."
With resolve in her step, she made her way to Bidding Room 1, leaving Thalia Iris perplexed. "Haley, I thought we were pursuing a chip dealership. Why…"
Haley offered a faint smile. "A chip dealership yields less than a hundred thousand a month. It's not worth my time."
Thalia Iris stared, incredulous. "But to bid for the position of lead chip development designer, don't you need to prepare at least three months in advance?"
Just three months ago, Star Technical Company didn't even exist, posing the question of how they could compete with established contenders.
