Chapter 457
After the phone call was connected, a booming voice came from the other end. "The Lumi Group is in the news. Let's see what stupid thing you've done!"
Hollis took a deep breath and replied, "I have been the president of the Lumi Group for twelve years and have never made any mistakes. Doesn't everyone have a chance to make mistakes?"
Hollis angrily left the seat, leaving everyone in the banquet hall stunned.
It was their first time seeing such a vulnerable side of the president of the Lumi Group.
And all of this was because of Haley.
As everyone's gaze turned toward Haley, it became even more complicated.
Louis raised his glass and smirked. "Now I finally understand why I always lose to you, Hollis. If even a master of the business world like you can lose to Haley, let alone me, a newcomer..."
Haley ignored him and sent a message on her phone.
Louis continued to shake his wine glass and said, "Hey, do you guys think Hollis really bought the copyright of that paper? Haley, you should ask your mentor."
Haley smiled. "Of course not."
That paper was published in a local niche magazine with an annual sales volume of less than a hundred thousand copies and was on the verge of being discontinued. Very few people had seen that paper, so no one could discover that she had plagiarized it. That was why Hollis dared to openly claim someone else's work as his own.
"Since she didn't buy it, then she should be taught a lesson."
Louis snorted, "Last year, when the Granger family collaborated with the Lumi Family, Hollis took most of the profits."
Haley calmly said, "There should always be room for compromise. There's no need to make a big fuss about this."
And besides, Alfonso was really poor. While professors in the university had two houses each, Alfonso had been renting a house, causing his wife and children to leave him. He spent all his time in the laboratory researching things that were not of interest in the market and couldn't earn any money. He was getting poorer and poorer. Haley hoped that Hollis could give Alfonso a large sum of money so that she didn't have to worry about her mentor starving to death.
Louis looked at Haley with a hint of admiration in his eyes.
"I'm sorry. I'll go to the restroom first."
Haley lifted her skirt and went to the restroom to touch up her makeup. As she walked around the corner of the restroom, she saw a tall figure leaning against the balcony in the hallway.
Her cold eyes remained indifferent. "Mr. Zephyr."
Sterling turned around, and his eyes were pitch black under the dim lights. He was wearing a black suit, and if it weren't for the silvery mask reflecting light, Haley would never have noticed his presence.
As she looked at this figure, she felt a strange sense of familiarity, as if he resembled someone she knew.
She approached him, her voice still cold. "Mr. Zephyr, were you waiting for me?"
"Your performance tonight was outstanding," Sterling said slowly. I just saw the news: You and Hollis are trending again, and Waterford's reputation as the number one beauty has grown even stronger."
Haley smiled. "Thank you for your praise, Mr. Zephyr."
Sterling stood up straight, and his dark eyes stared at her. "Haley, have you considered the cooperation proposal I mentioned last time?"
Haley's smile remained on her face. "I have already signed a contract with Vanguard Corporation, so naturally, I will be cooperating with them."
"Haley, you know that's not the project I was referring to."
Suddenly, Sterling leaned over, his silver-masked face getting close to her ear. As he opened his mouth, his breath sprayed on Haley's neck.
The breath was not hot but rather cool.
Startled, she quickly stepped back and squinted her eyes. "Mr. Zephyr, can't you talk properly? If someone who doesn't know me sees this, they would think you're being inappropriate."
Sterling suddenly let out a low laugh. "Haley practices taekwondo. Are you afraid I'll do something inappropriate?"
Haley raised her cold gaze. "Mr. Zephyr, have you investigated me?"
"You are the partner I have chosen, so naturally, I will thoroughly investigate your background," Sterling twirled his fingers. "If Haley agrees to participate in that project, I will ensure that her interests are maximized."
Haley lightly laughed. "I'm sorry, but I already have too many projects on hand and can't handle them anymore. Mr. Zephyr, please find someone else."
After saying that, she lifted her skirt hem and left the corridor.
Sterling stood in the corridor, his cold eyes fixed on her figure, knowing that she had disappeared from his sight.
