Chapter 56 Father and Daughter
After changing her outfit at home, she drove to the DeRoss Group. It was her first visit since returning to the country. The DeRoss Group building stood firm as it did five years ago, but now it had been renovated with blue glass walls that reflected the blue sky and clouds, giving it a grand and imposing appearance.
Haley walked in calmly. As soon as she appeared in the lobby, she attracted the attention of countless people.
"Isn't that Haley? Why is she here at the company?"
"Didn't the news say she became the third largest shareholder of the DeRoss Group? There's a shareholders' meeting today, so of course she has to come."
"She hasn't shown up at the company for four or five years. She probably has no idea about the company's operations and direction."
"What do you know? She's here to assert her authority. As for running the company, leave it to the professionals. She doesn't need to understand those things."
"I feel like there will be a power struggle within the DeRoss Group."
"I agree!”
Amidst the buzzing discussions, Haley calmly entered the elevator and went straight to the top floor. When she arrived, Mr. DeRoss rushed out upon receiving a call from his secretary.
Father and daughter met face-to-face in the corridor, both with complex expressions.
Haley slightly curled her lips, revealing a smile. "I am the majority shareholder of the DeRoss Group, so why can't I attend?"
Mr. DeRoss gritted his teeth and said, "You haven't studied business management and don't understand the ways of commerce. Your presence at the shareholders' meeting is meaningless. I will have someone send you back."
"Dad, you also haven't studied business management, right?" Haley's thin lips carried a hint of sarcasm. "When the DeRoss Group was founded, you had no understanding of business management either, and yet, the DeRoss Group has developed quite well, hasn't it?”
“Oh right, the success and growth of the DeRoss Group have nothing to do with you. It's all thanks to my mother. My mother, who held a master's degree in business management from Harvard University. Without her, the DeRoss Group wouldn't have survived its inception."
Muscles twitched on Mr. DeRoss's face, clearly pushed to his limits. The person he detested most was someone who would bring up that woman in front of him... she was too outstanding, making him appear useless.
He admitted that without that woman, the DeRoss Group wouldn't have developed at all. But she had been dead for twenty years, and the DeRoss Group had been thriving for those twenty years. The past twenty years of achievements had nothing to do with her anymore.
The glory and brilliance of the DeRoss Group were all brought about by his own hand! Disgust filled Haley's eyes. In order to seize her half of the shares, Mr. DeRoss had played the role of a doting father for eighteen years. A whole eighteen years, truly a torment.
She chuckled lightly. "Who knows, perhaps I inherited my mother's business acumen. Why not choose to believe in me?"
Mr. DeRoss was truly enraged. Failing to suppress his anger, he roared at her.
"If you dare to mention that woman again, get out of the DeRoss Group!"
