Chapter 572
Ivan was wrapped in a damp blanket and looked uninjured.
Haley breathed a sigh of relief and quickly dialed Ivan's phone. After several rings, no one answered.
As she turned around, she saw Brenda, who had finished seeing off the guests, approaching her.
Brenda said, "Alfred just took the children back. Let's go home, too."
Haley held her phone and asked, "Is Ivan back?"
"He had some things to deal with..." Brenda's eyes looked somewhat guilty. "The Winston Group's church caught fire. It looks like it was arson. They burned down the church and a row of surrounding shops and houses. This incident has caused a big stir, and Ivan needs to assist the police in the investigation."
Haley nodded without saying anything more.
The wedding reception ended, and the hall became cold and empty. After they returned to the Winston family, the house was eerily quiet.
Although there were balloons and colorful lights everywhere in the yard, Haley suddenly felt lonely.
Had she turned into a resentful woman because Ivan hadn't stayed with her on their wedding day?
Haley chuckled.
She glanced into the children's room, where the children were all flushed from drinking. She didn’t know how much they had consumed.
The children had all been born prematurely and were not in the best health, so they couldn't drink so much.
But Brenda had allowed the children to drink, so Haley couldn't say anything.
Haley returned to her room, slowly removed her makeup, and washed up. By the time she finished, it was past nine in the evening.
Yet, she still hadn't received any reply from Ivan.
Haley was truly exhausted today, and she had also had two drinks. She had intended to wait for Ivan to come back, but ended up falling asleep while waiting for him.
Haley felt like she had a dream.
She found herself in a misty valley, surrounded by white fog blocking her path. Her limbs felt weak and powerless.
Haley wanted to walk out of the fog, but every time she tried to stand up, she would fall to the ground.
Suddenly, a fire ignited deep within the fog.
The blaze dispersed the white mist, and Haley could finally see what lay ahead.
There was a temple at the edge of a cliff. A figure writhed in agony amidst the flames.
"Haley, save me, help me!"
Haley recognized the voice—it was Ivan!
Without hesitation, Haley scrambled on all fours toward the edge of the cliff, desperately trying to reach it. However, no matter how hard she pushed, the cliff remained several dozen meters away.
The temple suddenly collapsed, and the flames engulfed Ivan's figure.
"Ivan!" Haley screamed, jolting awake from the nightmare.
She was drenched in sweat. Her back was soaked through.
Haley gasped for air, checking the time on her phone—it was already past three in the morning.
But Ivan hadn't returned yet.
Haley felt tense. A boundless sense of suffocation washing over her.
As she was about to call Ivan, she suddenly noticed a man's figure standing on the balcony.
