Chapter 709
In Karl's mind, the boss of the Deross family should be older than him, at least around thirty.
Owen, the milk lover, always sounded mature in his messages, and Karl thought he was at least forty.
But now, standing in front of him were two four-year-old kids.
Karl was pretty skeptical, but as soon as Todd and Keith spoke, he had to accept it.
"K, we have something important to discuss with you," Todd said seriously.
Karl sat down on the sofa, feeling dizzy.
"You'll go meet Leonardo on my behalf," Todd continued. "You know how we met, so I won't waste words. This time, your main task is to gather information on the recent list of Country H soldiers associated with the Black Gang."
Todd spoke with precision and logic. Despite his childish voice, his words were something even an adult would struggle to articulate.
Karl's sense of defeat deepened.
He was the most capable person in his family, and everyone was proud of him.
But now, he was subordinate to a four-year-old kid.
Karl always thought he was pretty impressive, but facing these two four-year-olds, he felt like a failure.
What was he doing at four? Playing in the mud or fighting with the brat next door?
"Don't be too discouraged." Thomas patted Karl's shoulder. "I've grown up under Todd's guidance over the years."
Thomas's basic hacking skills were all thanks to Todd's teachings, slowly building a foundation.
He had been constantly beaten down by a four-year-old and had long developed an indestructible heart.
"Mr. Rodriguez, this task carries some risk. Please consider carefully before deciding whether to accept it," Haley reminded calmly from the side.
Karl waved his hand. "Leonardo and I are old friends. Back then, he could single-handedly assassinate August because of us..."
Todd coughed violently, interrupting Karl.
Karl suddenly chuckled.
This Todd, usually so serious as a man in his thirties or forties, was actually afraid of his mom.
After all, a kid is still a kid. No matter how capable or smart, Todd was still a baby in front of his mom.
Karl finally found a bit of psychological comfort.
He patted his chest and said, "Don't worry. This task is a piece of cake. Leave it to me."
Haley's lips twitched. She couldn't shake the feeling that Karl seemed pretty unreliable.
Todd, however, wasn't surprised. He frowned slightly and said, "If Leonardo doesn't want to reveal the info, don't push him. Come back early."
"Alright, a four-year-old shouldn't be teaching me how to do things. Go drink your milk and be careful, or your mommy will scold you if you misbehave."
Karl slung his travel bag over his shoulder and happily headed out.
Keith frowned. "Todd, is he really reliable?"
He hadn't known Karl for long and didn't know what kind of person he was.
Todd nodded. "Karl's methods are rough, but he always gets the job done. We can trust him."
Karl drove off in Thomas's car, not heading into Hinterlands but stopping at a restaurant. This was where Todd and Leonardo had agreed to meet.
Two guards stood at the restaurant entrance, blocking his way.
Karl coughed and said, "I'm the eldest of the Deross family. Go report it."
The two guards had already received orders. After sizing Karl up and down, they finally let him in.
