Chapter 354
"There's no one here, so speak your mind. Don't beat around the bush," Emily said with a cold laugh. "I've said it before: all you have to do is leave Cuenca, and I'll give you anything. I still mean it, and you'd better take this chance."
"I finally understand why you're so scared of me being in Cuenca," Haley said, swirling her glass of red wine lazily. "The moment I came back, you've tried everything to make me disappear. I always thought you were afraid of me taking your spot as the heir to the DeRoss family, but that's not it at all."
Emily was on edge. She glared at the person sitting across from her, grinding her teeth. "You're back to take everything the DeRoss family has, aren't you? Well, I won't back down."
Haley snickered in response.
She set down her wine glass and leaned forward, radiating an overpowering presence.
Her voice was icy. " Being the heir to the DeRoss family is trivially Different from being the young mistress of the Winston family. Emily, you're just afraid I'll replace you as the young madam of the Winston clan, aren't you?"
"Don't kid yourself!" Emily said with hatred seething through her clenched teeth. "You might be pretty, but to Ivan, you're just a fling. He'll get tired of you and come back to me. I'm the mother of his two sons. He will marry me."
"Oh, will he?"
Haley's lips curled into a smile, and the amusement was clear on her face.
That smile sent shivers down Emily's spine, giving her the unnerving feeling of being completely seen through.
"Are Owen and Keith really your sons?" Haley asked deliberately, drawing out each word like a hammer striking directly at Emily's heart.
Emily's breathing became ragged. "Of course, they're my sons. I carried them for ten months. They're my flesh and blood. You..."
Haley cut her off mercilessly. "I'm curious how you managed to fool everyone in the Winston family. How did you make someone as sharp as Ivan believe those kids are yours? Just because you showed up with two babies, he believed you? It can't be that easy, right?"
Emily trembled all over.
Hearing this, she realized there was no pretense left.
Haley knew everything. The intricate web she had woven over four years had been unraveled.
"Let me guess, you must have used my hair to fake your own for the paternity test, making Ivan believe everything, right?" Haley's lips curled with mockery. "Too bad, the kid isn't your flesh and blood, so no matter how perfect your lies are, you can't conceal the deepest pull of kinship. Owen has already started calling me 'mommy', you know?"
Emily's face drained of color, turning ghostly pale.
Ever since Owen became sentient, he had not called her mother. He had always been disgusted and impatient, treating her as an enemy.
But just moments ago, she had witnessed Owen rush into Haley's arms affectionately and plant a kiss on Haley's face.
That was the image of a true mother and son.
"Haley, if it hadn't been for me, Keith and Owen would have died four years ago." Emily's lips trembled as she made her last stand. "I saved their lives. You owe me those lives. How do you plan to repay me for them."
Haley's fingers tapped the coffee table absentmindedly.
With each tap, Emily's heart tightened even more.
If Ivan found out about this, she was done for, completely done for. Not only her, but the DeRoss family could suffer repercussions.
"In light of the fact that you saved my sons, I might let you off the hook for now," Haley said. "But just because I'm willing to forgive doesn't mean Ivan will let you off."
