Chapter 37 Haley Helps Owen
Haley looked at Owen seriously. "You're a brave young man, so don't cry so easily in the future."
Angela, being a little girl, hadn't cried much since she was born.
"Haley, I won't cry anymore... I just, haven't seen you in so long, so I missed you a little bit." He blushed as soon as he said that.
Ivan's mouth twitched. When did Owen start speaking such cheesy words? How come he didn't know? And what kind of magic did this woman possess that made Owen, the little demon king, look so pitiful?
Haley felt a bit embarrassed by the whole situation. Actually, she had a good impression of this child, but Owen was a Winston family member. If she showed too much care for him, it would raise suspicions of her trying to gain favor with the Winston family.
She put Owen down and said softly, “I have something to do, so I’ll go back first. Goodbye.”
"No!" Owen hugged her thigh tightly. His voice became choked up again. "You just arrived and want to leave already. I want to stay with you a little longer."
Ivan, again wondered, where did he learn these cheesy lines from?
Haley helplessly rubbed her forehead. "Owen, I really have something to do..."
Owen held back his tears for a while, but they, eventually, poured out. "My dad keeps me locked up at home all day to study. I can't sleep well or eat well. I haven't even had lunch yet, and I'm so hungry. I'm starving to death... Haley doesn't like me either. She just walks away whenever she sees me. Am I really that annoying?"
The little guy released Haley's leg and squatted on the ground, crying uncontrollably. Tears fell one by one, wetting the ground beneath him. Haley's heart was squeezed in this moment, and she felt suffocated all over.
She squatted down and said softly, "You said you haven't had lunch?"
Owen sobbed, "I haven't eaten for a week. I'm so hungry. I'm going to starve to death soon." Haley raised her eyebrows and looked at Ivan. Her gaze carried reproach, asking why a child was being starved. Ivan pursed his lips. He disdained explaining, and it wasn't necessary to explain his son's affairs to an outsider.
Alfred quickly spoke up, "Owen is picky with food. He doesn't like the meals cooked by the chef, so he doesn't eat much every day, Owen abandoned his bowl and chopsticks after only a few bites. His hair was starting to worry me,"
Haley understood that Owen hadn't eaten for several days, she held Owen's hand and whispered softly, "Can I make lunch for you?"
Owen suddenly, looked up, his eyes full of disbelief. "Haley, are you serious?" he said.
"It depends on whether your dad will let me use your kitchen," Haley replied.
As soon as Haley finished speaking, Owen turned around and hugged Ivan's thigh.
"Dad, can you let Haley go to the kitchen and make lunch for me. Dad, I promise to be obedient from now on and not run away."
Being held by his own son's arms felt very strange. Since the two boys grew up, they hadn't had much physical contact with him. And Owen had never spoken to him in such a spoiled manner.
He never imagined that Owen, this little devil, would lower himself in front of Haley just to show affection. It was completely unexpected.
He nodded and said, "Owen, this is what you requested. So, no matter what food she makes, you must finish it."
"Yes, Dad!" Owen happily nodded and even saluted.
Haley was beautiful, so the food she made must be delicious. Owen's anticipation grew. On the other hand, Ivan had some contempt. Was this woman from a wealthy family? How could she possibly cook?
Even if she learned culinary skills these past few years, she couldn't compare to the professional chef the Winston family hired. However, Haley didn't care about what the father and son were thinking.
She followed Alfred into the kitchen, where various fresh ingredients were neatly arranged, just like in the kitchen of a large restaurant.
After a quick glance, she took two tomatoes and a bag of noodles, planning to make a simple tomato noodle soup.
Alfred stood by and reminded her, "Owen doesn't like noodles..."
In other words, he asked her to quickly change her plan. Haley smiled and said, "After starving for so many days, it's better for his stomach to have something light."
With that, she ignited the stove, poured some oil, and performed all the actions seamlessly.
Alfred stood on the side, quietly observing. Owen always dismissed everyone, but this woman received special treatment from him. Moreover, she was brought back by Owen.
In other words, this woman had the unanimous approval of Owen and Ivan himself, she must not be offended. A bowl of tomato soup noodles was quickly prepared. Haley carried it out of the kitchen and placed it on the dining table.
Ivan frowned when he saw a bowl of plain soup noodles. He had already determined that this woman couldn't cook, but was a plain bowl of noodles too perfunctory? Every time Owen had a meal, there had to be a table full of various exquisite dishes. If only a bowl of noodles was served, would the mischievous little devil accept it?
"It's going to be a mess..."
However! Owen clapped his hands in delight.
"Wow, Haley, you're amazing! You cooked the noodles so quickly!" The little guy excitedly took a deep breath. "It smells so good! Too fragrant! I've never smelled anything so delicious before! Haley, can I eat it now?"
Haley patted his head. “It’s a bit hot, so eat slowly.”
Owen picked up his chopsticks and started slurping the noodles, mouthful after mouthful, unable to stop.
Alfred was dumbfounded. They had cooked noodles before, but whenever the noodles were served, Owen would end up smashing the bowl, so they stopped making noodles for him. But now, Owen almost finished a bowl of noodles in one breath.
Could it be that the chef he found was really that bad? Alfred fell into deep self-doubt. And Ivan, too, couldn't believe his eyes. Owen, who had been picky since he started eating, was now hugging a big bowl of noodles and devouring them with gusto. Are these noodles really that delicious?
Ivan's gaze shifted to the plain noodles. There was nothing special about them. What had captured this kid's heart? Suddenly, Ivan had the urge to taste a spoonful of these noodles.
Perhaps sensing his thoughts, Owen immediately hugged the bowl and cautiously said, “Daddy, Haley made these noodles just for me; you’re not allowed to take them!”
Even if Ivan wanted to eat, he couldn't snatch food from a child's mouth. Owen felt that his daddy was too dangerous, so he moved closer to Haley while still holding the bowl. But he accidentally lost balance and stumbled forward.
The entire bowl of noodle soup suddenly and unexpectedly splashed all over Haley's chest!
