Chapter 729

Hearing Leonardo's words, Haley's face suddenly changed.

She'd heard about the power struggles in the Black Gang. As Quillan's daughter, Isabel had every reason to poison the medicine.

Haley stood up. "You lie down. I'll get the doctor."

"Don't think about escaping!" Leonardo yanked her back onto the bed. "Who are you, and why are you here?"

Haley, pinned down, snapped, "Isabel brought the medicine. If it's poisoned, it's her doing, not mine. Let me go get a doctor!"

They were close, and as she struggled, her collar loosened, revealing her fair skin.

A sudden heat surged in Leonardo, his body tense.

Feeling his reaction, Haley was stunned. "Don't do anything crazy. You're seriously injured; now's not the time for this."

She moved slightly, feeling his body heat up even more.

Haley swallowed hard. "Did Isabel drug you with an aphrodisiac?"

Leonardo's eyes turned cold.

No wonder the medicine smelled strange and made his blood boil.

He thought, 'How dare Isabel put an aphrodisiac in my medicine. She must have a death wish.'

Leonardo released Haley. "You can go."

He got out of bed and reached for the IV, but Haley stopped him. "That's an anti-inflammatory drip. Removing it could infect your wound."

Before she finished, she saw Leonardo's eyes turn red.

Haley felt lucky she came over. If Isabel had her way, she might have forced herself on Leonardo.

If Ivan had sex with another woman, she didn't know if she could still accept him.

"I'll take a cold shower," Leonardo said coldly. "Unless you want to be my antidote?"

Haley's words were forcefully rebutted.

When Leonardo got up, she saw his arms and chest were also covered in blood, seeping through bandages.

Leonardo nearly died, and Isabel gave him an aphrodisiac. She wanted to drain his last bit of energy.

Haley regretted not slapping Isabel earlier.

"Don't take a cold shower." She grabbed Leonardo's wrist. "Your wounds shouldn't get wet; they could get infected."

Meeting Leonardo's eyes, filled with suppressed desire, she said, "I'll get you a doctor."

"Since I got injured, there's no one I can trust," Leonardo said coldly. "I'm taking a shower."

Leonardo had risen from obscurity, with countless scars reminding him not to trust anyone.

The person who stabs you in the back is often the one you trust the most.

Watching Leonardo head to the bathroom, Haley made up her mind. "Don't take a cold shower; I'll help you."

As soon as she said it, her face turned red.

Even without a paternity test, she was sure Leonardo was Ivan. The connection between them was undeniable.

Just like on their wedding night, even in the dark, Haley knew the man beside her wasn't her husband, Ivan.

She was drawn to Leonardo, and despite his mistrust, he never hurt her.

He had to be Ivan!

Haley stepped closer. "If you weren't injured, I wouldn't care about the cold showers. But you're seriously hurt, and with so many people after your position, you could die if you collapse."

She pulled him back to the bed.

Leonardo's suppressed desire erupted.

He gripped her shoulders and asked, "Are you sure you won't regret this?"

Haley felt a twinge of fear but reminded herself they were husband and wife. It was natural to help him.

She didn't speak, just unbuttoned her collar, revealing her delicate collarbone and fair skin.

Leonardo's rationality vanished. He held her waist, kissing her neck. The tender kisses filled Haley's long-empty heart.

She responded to his kisses.

Her hands fumbled with his belt, and she noticed the blue birthmark below his abdomen.

But around the birthmark were dozens of scars—whip marks, knife wounds, burns.

'What had he gone through in the past month?' she wondered.

Tears flowed uncontrollably.

Leonardo kissed her face, swallowing her tears.

The room resonated with their passionate gasps as they gradually came together both physically and spiritually.

Nearly an hour later, it ended.

Haley nestled in Leonardo's arms, closing her eyes and inhaling his familiar scent.

"Why are you crying?" Leonardo asked softly, his chin rubbing against her head.

Haley's voice was hoarse. "Seeing your wounds makes me imagine what you've been through, and then I cry."

"I thought..." Leonardo paused.

"What?" Haley asked, opening her eyes.

"I thought you were thinking about your missing husband." Leonardo's eyes dimmed as he played with her hair. "You're my lover now. Helping you find your husband is my responsibility. I'll find him for you within a week."

The term "lover" made Haley inexplicably unhappy. She felt Ivan's mindset had been corrupted by the people around him.

Haley snorted. "Can't I be your wife?"

"Would you marry me?" Leonardo's eyes lit up. "If you want, I'll give you the grandest wedding."

Haley's eyes welled up again.

Whether before or after his amnesia, Ivan had always loved her dearly.

She sniffled. "Let's not talk about that now. I have something more important to tell you."

Leonardo held her, his hand caressing her waist. "Go ahead. I'm listening."

"You know I came to Hinterlands to find my husband. His name is Ivan..."
