Chapter289

Compared to Haley's tranquility, Jeremy seemed a bit frantic.

After the news broke, calls kept flooding in from the capital. His assistant was reporting the stock price every five minutes.

Chaos erupted in his family's group chat as well, and his wife bombarded him with messages asking what in the world was happening.

Jeremy was sitting on the sofa in the hotel room, pressing hard against his temples.

If this issue wasn't resolved, the business and family he had worked so hard to build over the years could be ruined in an instant.

He took a deep breath, pulled out his phone, and dialed Emily's number.

Emily had just left the concert hall.

It was her third tour concert, each one more dazzling than the last, and more people were taking notice of her. Her fame was rapidly rising.

After this tour was over, she was sure to become Cuenca's most celebrated pianist.

Glancing at the caller ID, she walked to a secluded area and answered the call, "Hello, Mr. Jeremy."

"Emily, what's going on with the news online?" Tom asked sharply, his tone accusatory and urgent.

If Haley hadn't leaked the story, then it had to be Emily.

"Why are you so fired up, Mr. Jeremy?" Emily replied with a light chuckle, "I've seen the news as well, but I can assure you, it wasn't me. I've been busy with my concerts and haven't had the time to meddle in whatever's going on between you and my sister."

She curled her lips, continuing, "In fact, it's very likely my sister who sought out the journalists. Think about it, Mr. Jeremy, you have a wife and son. Even if you truly have feelings for my sister, she can't just immediately marry into your family. But, if the child's story is out, your wife would be furious and might even consider divorce. That way, my sister could take advantage of the situation and step right in..."

Jeremy's expression darkened since now wasn't the time to delve into who had leaked the story.

With a cold tone, he said, "At the end of the day, this is all your fault. Five years ago, if it hadn't been for you approaching me, how could I have ended up with Haley for that one night? Without that night, I wouldn't suddenly have two illegitimate sons. It's all because of you!"

"Mr. Jeremy, those are some unpleasant words!" Emily retorted with a cold laugh, "It was you who fancied my sister at first sight, and my mother simply went with the flow and delivered her to your bed."

Jeremy shouted angrily, "I thought Haley was with me out of her own free will, but to think that you and your mother had actually drugged her!"

"Without the drugs, would she have complied? Without the drugs, would you have succeeded in winning Cuenca's greatest beauty?" Emily shot back sarcastically, "We went through a great deal of trouble to make it happen, and now, five years later, you have the nerve to blame us? So much of being grateful"

"What kind of drug did you give to Haley?"

"A kind that makes people compliant."

Haley sat in her office, the corners of her lips curling into a sneer as she listened to the recording. Jeremy had some brains, after all. He somehow had managed to get some evidence.

With this in hand, she wasn't afraid of Emily's antics anymore.

She backed up the recording and stood up, striding toward the door.

Ariana quickly approached her. "Haley, where are you going?"

"Just stepping out for a bit," Haley replied coolly.

"The office building is swarming with reporters." Ariana paused before continuing, "Haley, maybe you should change into a janitor's outfit and slip out the back."
