Chapter 820 Don't Remember

Ivan had never seen Haley lose her temper like this since he had known her.

"It's okay, I'll go upstairs and calm her down," Ivan reassured the kids, grabbing the first aid kit and heading upstairs.

He gently knocked on the door, "Haley, your finger is still bleeding. Let me in to bandage it first, okay? Once it's taken care of, you can do everything you want to me."

There was no response from inside the room.

Ivan felt even more frustrated.

He thought, 'Did I really use too much force?'

He continued knocking, "Haley, please open the door. Let's talk face to face."

Downstairs, the four kids exchanged glances.

Angela bit her lip and said, "I have this feeling that Mom is really mad this time."

Todd added, "It looks like Mom's finger is bleeding."

Back when they lived abroad, Haley never made a fuss over injuries, and she wouldn't get inexplicably angry. Today, though, something felt off.

They thought, 'Could it be that Dad did or said something to upset Mom? But Mom isn't usually like this when she is upset.'

Owen huffed, "Dad is hopeless. He can't even manage to calm Mom down! I'm going upstairs to get Mom."

Keith grabbed the back of his collar, "Can't you see? Mom's pretending to be upset to get Dad's attention."

Angela's eyes lit up, "That's right. In novels, after the heroine gets together with the hero, she becomes all delicate and needs looking after. Now that Dad's here to protect Mom, she's acting like a little girl."

Todd's furrowed brow relaxed.

Before, no one was there to protect Haley, so she learned to handle everything on her own.

But now, with Ivan around, Haley was starting to act like a young girl.

He thought that should be a good thing.

"Let's go and get back to our puzzle," Keith called out, and the four kids went back to the living room to play.

The bedroom door was firmly shut.

Haley sat dazed in the living room. Her finger had mostly stopped bleeding; the cut was scabbing over and hurt when touched.

She heard Ivan knocking from outside, and the noises became a blur in the background. She wanted to make out what Ivan was saying, but nothing registered.

It was as if some mysterious force was controlling her.

Haley closed her eyes, focusing on pushing out the mental noise.

She wasn't sure how much time had passed until the door was flung open by Ivan. She snapped her eyes open.

Her mind went blank. "What's wrong?"

Ivan scooped her into his arms. "Haley, don't do this again, okay? Don't shut me out like this. No matter how much you yell at me or how mad you get, please don't lock yourself away."

The past twenty minutes had felt like a lifetime to him.

He was terrified, genuinely scared of losing her.

Haley stared at him in a daze.

She tried to remember what had just happened but could only recall being in the kitchen, chopping vegetables. She thought, 'How have I ended up in the bedroom?;

She gently pushed Ivan away and asked softly, "I wasn't angry with you or ignoring you, Ivan. What exactly happened?"

Ivan's eyes searched hers, and he said slowly, "You don't remember what just happened?"

Haley rubbed the back of her head, trying to piece things together. "All I remember is being in the kitchen chopping vegetables, and then… well, my finger got cut."
