Chapter 850
Because of the snow, construction at the site was put on hold, giving the workers a day off. But a bunch of them were still hustling near the coastline.
Haley squinted, "What are they up to over there?"
Lester shrugged, "They said they're fixing the fence, but that's not on the blueprint."
Maurice nodded, "That spot's for boat rentals. If they fence it off, we're screwed."
Haley tightened her coat and headed over. There were piles of fences on the ground, enough to cover three to four hundred meters, taking up almost two-thirds of the coastline.
If most of the coastline got fenced off, the resort's main attraction would be toast.
And this fence project? Totally not on the blueprint.
Before Haley could say anything, Bryan snapped, "Who gave you the green light to start this without permission?"
The leader, a chubby guy in his forties named Brent Morgan, puffed on his cigarette and said, "It's a Lumi Group project. They told us to be here. You think we'd work for free?"
Haley smirked, "How long to finish this fence?"
"Today," Brent said, taking a breather. "Lumi Group's paying ten times the usual rate."
Bryan clenched his fist, "It’s gotta be Hollis, trying to block the coastline and shut down the resort."
Lester looked shocked, "The petrochemical project is already a done deal. Why would Ms. Lumi still mess with us?"
"That's just how Ms. Lumi rolls," Maurice said angrily. "She'll do anything to win."
Lester quickly nudged Maurice.
Even though Hollis was their rival, badmouthing her wasn't cool since she was Haley and Bryan's aunt.
Haley spoke calmly, "From today on, as the main person in charge of this project, I command you to stop the construction."
Brent finally paused, "You're in charge? No way, what can a girl be responsible for?"
Haley flashed her work badge, "You're violating the blueprint with this illegal construction. Leave now or you'll be in big trouble."
Her face was stone-cold, making Brent even more annoyed.
"Cut the crap. We were called by the Lumi Group. This isn't illegal. You better leave now, or I'll make you."
Brent waved a steel pipe.
Haley said coldly, "Looks like you really want to make this a big deal."
She pulled out her phone, pretending to make a call. Building a fence without permission and violating the blueprint would give the authorities the right to shut it down, even if the cops got involved.
For Haley, this was a piece of cake. If she couldn't handle these workers, how could she take on Hollis?
Unexpectedly, as soon as Haley took out her phone, Brent freaked. He knew the consequences of illegal construction. If the cops got called, the work would stop, and they'd lose that sweet tenfold pay.
Brent squinted and reached to grab Haley's phone.
