Chapter 88 Stop liking Ivan
Forget it, they are partners after all. She would have plenty of opportunities to make it up to him in the future. Haley put Angela in the back seat and drove to the police station to close the case, and then went to the preschool to pick up Todd.
"Ms. DeRoss, I'm truly sorry! It was our preschool's negligence. I promise to watch over Angela closely from now on and ensure that today's incident won't happen again!" apologized Heidi, full of guilt.
Haley knew it wasn't solely the preschool's fault. Holding the hands of her two children, she spoke softly. She said, "Todd, Angela, from now on, you should listen to Heidi. Even if you want to go somewhere, you must tell Heidi. Understood?"
Todd nodded and said, "Don't worry, Mommy. I will take care of my little sister." Angela opened her eyes wide, looking confused, before nodding.
Heidi said, "Angela is really adorable. Say goodbye to the teacher, we'll see each other tomorrow."
Angela obediently raised her arm and waved in response. Considering she was autistic, this kind of interaction was remarkable, at least indicating that she doesn’t reject Heidi as her teacher.
After saying goodbye to their preschool teacher, Haley took the two children to the car. In a low voice, Todd asked, “Mommy, where did we find Angela?”
"Angela went to the Winston Group," Haley answered while driving. "Todd, you spend the most time with Angela. Can you tell me how she met Ivan?"
Suddenly, Todd's fingers tightened. Did Angela secretly go to see Ivan? Does she already know that Ivan is their father?
"The last time you were hospitalized, Angela met Mr. Winston," Todd answered quietly. "Maybe she went to see Mr. Winston about something."
Haley nodded but didn't say anything more. When they reached home, Haley went to the kitchen to cook, while Todd sat beside Angela.
"Angela, look at me." His voice was deep and seemed to possess some kind of magic. Angela, who had been focused on playing with jigsaw puzzles, looked up and met his gaze.
"Do you really like Ivan?" Todd asked softly.
Angela hesitated for several seconds before slowly nodding her head. In the little girl's pitch-black eyes, there was a fleeting radiance, like a glimmer of light. But Todd managed to capture it. She had never shown such an expression when looking at Thomas.
Todd felt a little uncomfortable. If Ivan were a devoted man, he wouldn’t mind if mom and Ivan were together. However, This man impregnated mom while also having another child with a different woman. A man like that, how could he deserve to be with mom, or be Angela's father.
Todd took a deep breath and held Angela's soft fingers. Slowly and deliberately, he said, "Ivan doesn't like you." Angela widened her eyes, and moisture quickly welled up in them.
"He has a son, and in his eyes, you will never compare to Owen," Todd cruelly stated. "Angela, don't like Ivan anymore. He's not worth it."
The little girl violently pulled her hand away. She stood up and ran, kicking over the tower of building blocks she was standing on, causing them to crash noisily. Todd’s heart ached.
The person he least wanted to harm in this world was his sister, but in order to protect her from future harm, he had to take decisive action.
