Chapter 965
Camilla's jewelry from years ago was worth more than everything Nicole owned put together.
Folks in Brussville had only heard whispers about Heart of the Ocea; no one had actually seen it.
"Her background isn't simple," Samantha said, cool as a cucumber. "We hid all her stuff to keep her family off our trail while we treated your illness. But now that you're better, I want to help Camilla find her family. I owe her that much for calling me 'mother.'"
Nicole asked, "Mom, have you ever thought she might've stolen those things?"
"Who'd wear stolen goods out in the open?" Samantha shot back. "Plus, the way she carries herself, she's clearly not just anyone."
"If that's true, we can't let her marry into the Reynolds Family and get even closer to powerful people," Nicole's eyes narrowed. "If she finds her family, they'll dig into the past four years. They'll find out we swapped her blood, almost killed her, and made her lose her baby."
Samantha pressed her lips together. "Only the three of us know about this."
It had been three years since that mess, and they'd wiped all the surgical evidence clean, which was why she felt safe letting Camilla marry into the Reynolds Family.
For the past three years, Samantha had been haunted by nightmares.
To save Nicole, she had drained all of Camilla's blood, killing the baby Camilla was carrying. There was always a child in her nightmares.
Only by marrying Camilla off and connecting with the big families in Watertown through the Reynolds Family could Camilla possibly find her family.
Once Camilla reunited with her family, maybe Samantha's nightmares would finally end.
"Don't take out the jewelry yet," Nicole said, closing the box. "We can give it to Camilla as a wedding gift."
A cold glint flashed in Nicole's eyes.
Camilla always acted like she was better than everyone. If she really found her family, Nicole would definitely be left in the dust.
Nicole saw Camilla heading to the study after her bath.
Camilla, in a loose embroidered robe, looked fresh and naturally beautiful without any makeup. She leaned back in a chair, casually flipping through an old book.
Only then did Nicole believe Samantha's words. If Camilla were really from an ordinary family, she wouldn't understand ancient books.
Nicole slowly walked to the study door and softly asked, "Camilla, how do you plan to handle Mr. Reynolds?"
Without looking up, Camilla replied, "With a recording, Bradley won't dare act up, nor will he tell the Reynolds Family elders. Don't worry, this won't blow up."
Sure enough, the issue quietly faded over the next few days. Bradley's parents didn't come demanding answers.
For the past three years, Camilla's health had been shaky, needing weekly hospital check-ups.
Usually, a servant or Samantha went with her, but today, she drove to the hospital alone.
She usually went to internal medicine, but this time, Camilla headed to the gynecology department.
Bradley's words from that day still echoed in her ears. Last night, she dreamt of a blood-soaked child.
