Chapter 1042
Ivan placed her gently on the sofa in the lounge area.
He knelt down in front of her and took off her high heels. His eyes were deep and intense. "Your heel is chafed."
It was Camilla's first time wearing them. Camilla was used to discomfort resulting from new shoes.
She was about to say it was fine, but the words changed as they reached her lips. "It does hurt a bit. Can you get me some band-aids?"
Ivan's deep eyes lit up with joy.
Haley, who had always resisted him, was now asking him to buy something for her. Could this mean the distance between them had lessened?
"Okay, wait here for me. I'll be right back."
Ivan stood up and left the sales office.
Camilla let out a heavy sigh of relief. She bent down to put her shoes back on, grabbed her bag, and escaped through the side door.
Because if she didn't leave now, she feared she wouldn't be able to.
Ivan seeped into her very being like a drug, turning her into someone completely different. She couldn't accept this version of herself.
As soon as Camilla left the sales office, she hailed a cab, which quickly disappeared from the entrance.
At that moment, Ivan had just arrived at a nearby pharmacy. As soon as he walked in, the surroundings seemed to dim. All the pharmacists and customers were looking at him.
"Do you have any band-aids?" Ivan's cold, deep voice broke the silence, snapping the sales clerk back to reality.
"Yes!" The sales clerk quickly brought out the band-aids. "Anti-inflammatory, waterproof, and more affordable, which one do you want?"
Ivan pressed his cold lips together. "Which type is best for a girl wearing high heels?"
As soon as he said this, a collective sigh of heartbreak echoed through the pharmacy.
"Such a handsome man, and he has a girlfriend. So sad."
"He's so good-looking and even buys band-aids for his girlfriend. Why isn't my boyfriend this thoughtful?"
"Doesn't he look familiar to you?"
"I thought so too. Maybe I've seen him on TV."
"Could he be a celebrity?"
"He must not be a star."
"Let's take a picture just in case he's an international superstar."
A group of young women chattered away, but Ivan paid no attention. He carefully examined the ingredients of the band-aids, ensuring they were safe, then paid and left.
Ivan walked back to the sales office with the band-aids, a growing smile on his face.
He was going to take Haley to a movie and had arranged a romantic proposal next.
Ivan stepped inside, only to find the place empty. His eyes darkened immediately. It was a feeling he hadn't experienced since that night four years ago.
"Mr. Winston, Miss Jenkins left," the manager approached cautiously. "I tried to stop her, but she left too quickly for me to catch up."
Feeling the cold gaze intensify above him, the manager braced for the worst. But Ivan turned and left.
The manager felt as if he had narrowly escaped disaster.
Camilla sat in the cab, her eyes unfocused as she stared out the window.
