Chapter 944
The online buzz finally died down.
Night was creeping in. Haley was on the balcony, laptop on her knees, coding away for the company's new project.
Whenever Haley got lost in her work, that was when she felt the most at ease.
Suddenly, dogs started barking outside. One bark led to another, and soon the whole neighborhood was filled with the noise.
Haley opened the window and looked out. A bunch of stray dogs had wandered into the area.
The barking got louder, and Haley's irritation grew. She spotted a fruit knife on the coffee table, picked it up, and was about to throw it when she froze.
Haley pondered, 'Am I really thinking about hurting them? How can I even consider something so awful?'
"Where did these strays come from? Get rid of them!" Alfred ordered the servants to chase away the dogs.
Finally, the house was quiet again.
Ivan walked in and saw Haley frowning, staring coldly out the window.
He knew the barking would get to her. He walked over and said softly, "The moon's nice tonight. How about a drive?"
Haley couldn't focus on work anymore. She nodded, adjusted her clothes, and said, "Sure, let's go for a walk."
The kids were already asleep, so they held hands and headed to the yard.
Their villa was halfway up the hill, with an artificial park outside the gate. From the park's fence, they could see half of Watertown.
Stars twinkled, and the city's neon lights spread out. Watertown's night view, always bustling, was stunning.
Haley's gaze was distant.
Her hand touched the fence, and a strange thought popped into her head, ' What if I jumped from here? Wouldn't that be romantic?'
"Haley, let's go check that out," Ivan's voice snapped her out of it.
They walked down the winding mountain road. This was a wealthy area, quiet and peaceful, with luxury cars passing by.
Ivan held Haley's hand and tucked it into his coat pocket.
The night wind was strong, but Haley felt warm. They rarely took walks like this, and it felt nice.
Just then, a sharp voice cut through the night. "Marcus, how dare you hit me for that bitch?"
A woman's voice, full of anger and sadness.
Haley turned her head and saw three people standing by the roadside.
