Chapter271 Todd Left Alone
The car cruised smoothly, soon arriving at the grand entrance of the Winston residence.
Owen had finished his homework inside, waiting obediently in the living room.
Alfred was proud. Owen never completed his homework on time. Today, he marked a first.
As the car pulled up to the front of the Winston residence's grand house, Owen burst out of the door.
"Haley, you're finally here! I've been expecting you for so long! Angie, your dress is so pretty today, like a Disney princess!" Owen reached out, but the little girl stepped back with an icy expression.
Feeling slightly hurt, Owen pouted but quickly broke into a smile. "Angie, today I had Alfred buy a bunch of intricate puzzles, your favorite kind. Let's go play with them."
Angie stood motionless, not reacting at all.
Haley walked over and knelt. "Owen, I've got some things to take care of tonight, so I can't make dinner for you. But I promise I'll make it up another time, okay? Don't be mad at me."
"Haley, I'm a good kid. I would never be mad at you! Do what you need to do. I'll take care of Angie," Owen said, puffing out his chest, trying to sound grown-up.
Todd looked up. "Leave Angela with us. You can go ahead and do your thing without worrying."
Haley ruffled the kids' hair before turning and driving away.
After her car disappeared, Todd turned to Alfred. "Alfred, could you watch Angie for me?"
With Angela in his arms, the ever-smiling Alfred nodded. "Of course."
The words had barely left his lips when Todd stepped away from the Winston residence.
Surprised, Alfred hurried after him. "Mr. Todd, where are you heading?"
Todd turned. His voice was sweet. "I just forgot something at home. I'm going back to get it."
"I can have the driver take you home."
"That's okay."
Todd hopped into a taxi waiting at the curb, which instantly vanished from the mansion's driveway.
"Geez!" Alfred was nearly frantic. "Henry, what are you standing there for? Take a car and follow him, quick! We need to bring Mr. Todd back. What am I going to tell Haley if he goes missing?"
Owen tugged at Alfred's hand, whining, "Todd's super smart. He won't get lost. Gosh, Alfred, let's not worry about him. Take Angie inside so we can play puzzles."
Without Todd around, it would be even better. Angela might stop ignoring him.
Alfred didn't care whether Todd was clever or not. A four-year-old hailing a cab on his own was too dangerous.
Henry understood the urgency and rapidly got into his car and followed.
Todd, seated in the back of the cab, gave a casual glance at the car trailing them through the rising and falling of his indifferent gaze.
He pursed his lips, silent as the taxi driver hit the accelerator and the vehicle sped down the main road, swiftly reaching their destination.
Todd efficiently scanned his phone to pay, his actions smooth and precise. It was hardly what one would expect from a mere four-year-old.
The cab driver was left speechless.
"Thanks, mister," said Todd, hopping out and looking up at the imposing building before him. It was a private hospital.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the Winston family's bodyguard pulling over, stepping out of his car, and briskly walking in his direction.
Todd smirked slightly and hastened forward.
