Chapter 179

Alfred cried as if he was being torn apart from the inside, his sorrow was beyond words.

He clutched Haley's wrist, weeping, “I've watched Owen grow up from the time he was a baby. I held him, soothed him, and fed him… I still can’t believe that he just left us like this… It's all my fault. If it weren't for me, none of this would've happened…”

Haley raised her voice: “Alfred, I’ve told you, Owen’s all right, he really is fine. Please, stop it.”

“How can he be fine?” Alfred sobbed, barely catching his breath. “Owen lost so much blood… he’s barely breathing… Without Rh-negative blood, he won’t make it!” He choked with tears. “How am I supposed to face Mr. Winston with this?”

Haley was at her wits’ end.

Moreover, she felt dizzy, her legs growing weak from standing too long…

Just at that moment, the Winston family bodyguard approached and handed a slip to Alfred: “The needed amount of Rh-negative blood has been delivered to the operating room. The doctors say Owen will be fine after surgery.”

Alfred, reading the slip, saw a flicker of hope relit. In disbelief, he murmured, “He’s really okay! Owen’s going to be all right! Where did the Rh-negative blood come from?”

The bodyguard looked at Haley with gratitude, “Haley donated it without a second thought.”

Alfred’s eyes slowly shifted to Haley, “Haley, Rh-negative?”

Haley nodded, slightly dazed.

Donating that much blood in one go had made her head spin.

She had never had any accidents all her life, never knowing she had the rare Rh-negative blood type.

It wasn’t until Angela, three months old at the time, coughed up blood due to a severe lung infection and suddenly needed a transfusion, that she discovered Angela had inherited her Rh-negative blood type.

She had saved Angela once.

And now, she had saved Owen.

She suddenly felt fortunate to have this rare blood type, able to save the ones she loved.

“This is wonderful… Owen is saved…” Alfred cried with joy, overwhelmed with emotion.

He suddenly realized. Wasn’t Haley that Emily's older sister?

Which meant… Haley was Owen's aunt.

An aunt sharing the same blood type as her nephew seemed to make sense after all.
If only he'd known, he would have called Emily first instead of ending up in such a tear-streaked mess...

It dawned on Alfred late and with shame that he was embarrassed by his display of emotion. Clearing his throat, he said, "I'd better update Mr. Winston promptly so he won't worry..."

Outside the hospital.

Emily felt her heart climbing up to her throat.

She stared at Ivan's stern face, feeling weak-kneed with fear.

Could it be that Ivan had discovered something, and that's why he insisted on the blood test using Owen's accident as leverage?

What if he forcibly took her to the hospital, what would she do...

"Ivan, I was so worried and scared about Owen's accident, that's why I snapped at you, I'm sorry..." Emily knew how to show vulnerability, her eyes shimmering with tears, "Can we go check on Owen, please?"

She reached for Ivan's hand.

But he jerked his hand away.

A flicker of something passed through Ivan's mind.

He furrowed his brow, trying to latch onto that elusive thought...

Right now, Owen was the priority; he wasn't in the mood to entertain any other concerns.
