Chapter 442
Caught in the act by the Second Young Master, he had nowhere to hide his embarrassment. His dignity as an elder seemed to have vanished into thin air.
"Ah, I merely had a slight mishap with the bed," Alfred mumbled, touching his nose in an awkward attempt to deflect. "It's getting late, and at my age, one can't afford to skimp on sleep." He sighed a forlorn note, retreating to his room and gently shutting the door behind him.
Haley stood there, a realization dawning upon her as to why Alfred had concocted such a tale.
She was at a loss for words, unsure of how to react to the unfolding scene.
"Dad, I'm off to play with my big brother!" Owen wriggled out of Haley's hold and dashed upstairs.
Left in the quiet of the living room, Haley and Ivan's eyes met, each reflecting a mix of emotions yet to be deciphered.
After a few seconds, Haley stood up. "Alfred is already asleep, and the servants are not here. Let me help you clean up the room."
Ivan thought to himself that it wouldn't matter if he changed rooms to sleep, but he saw Haley already going upstairs, so he pursed his lips and followed her.
The master bedroom was the largest room. The door was open, and an unpleasant smell wafted out.
Haley stepped inside and saw an unidentified liquid spreading on the white sheets.
When it came to matters concerning the children, she was always gentle and patient, but now she couldn't help but want to beat Owen up.
She rolled up the sheets and duvet, and threw them outside into the hallway, then looked up and asked, "Are there any new sheets and duvets?"
Ivan stroked his chin contemplatively. "I wonder where they could be. Where are they normally stored?"
Haley fell silent. This wasn't her home; how could she possibly know the usual places for such things?
"You know, where they're typically placed? Alfred probably stored them in the usual spot," Ivan clarified.
Haley cautiously opened the closet, only to be greeted by another wave of disagreeable odor.
Every article of clothing in this closet was a casualty.
She turned around and indeed saw Ivan's face darkening, his eyes filled with murderous intent.
She could only pretend as if nothing happened and said, "The smell is a bit strong, but after washing it in the washing machine and drying it under the sun, it can still be worn."
She could still wear them, but she guessed this man definitely wouldn't want to wear them anymore.
"Years ago, Todd peed on my raincoat. After washing it, I continued wearing it for several years," Haley casually mentioned as she looked for duvets and sheets. It's normal for parents to get dirty things on themselves while taking care of their children. There's no need to be too concerned about cleanliness. Their children usually cure a person's cleanliness."
Ivan suddenly fell silent.
He looked at her, and after a while, he finally said, "Did you never have anyone to help you take care of Todd and Angela before?"
Haley chuckled lightly. "When I first escaped abroad in a sorry state, I only had a few thousand dollars with me. How could I afford to hire a nanny? I raised Todd and Angela. Later on, when Todd became more mature, he gradually learned to help me take care of Angela, which made things easier for me..."
As Ivan looked at the messy room again, it suddenly appeared much more pleasing to his eyes.
Although he had lived with Keith and Owen for four years, Alfred and the servant were the ones taking care of the two children. He had never really put in any effort.
He wanted to walk the path that Haley had walked.
He walked to the side of the bed and whispered, "I'll help you make the bed."
The two of them shook out the bedsheets and spread them on the large bed.
Just at that moment, the door suddenly shut closed.
