Chapter 371

YC Tech.
The sky had darkened.
Keith was reviewing documents when his phone started vibrating on his desk. Glancing at the caller ID, he answered the call.
"Miss DeRoss is here with Todd and Miss Angela. She asked when you'll be coming home."
Keith glanced at the pile of documents beside him and pressed his lips together. "I'll be back in ten minutes; don't wait for me for dinner," he said.
After hanging up, he closed the document in his hand.
Then, searching through the pile of papers, it took him two minutes to finally locate the technical project information he needed.
Inside was a formula that resembled one he'd seen in the A-F project. Holding this formula, he thought he could engage Haley in a longer conversation than usual.
As he walked out of the building with the document, Russell drove up and parked in front of him.
Keith hadn't even opened the car door when he saw a figure appear on the road ahead.
As twilight settled and the streetlights began to glow, the figure standing in the middle of the road became more prominent against the passing crowd.
"It's Miss DeRossEmily," Russell said softly, turning around.
A frown involuntarily creased Keith's brow.
He really didn't like Emily, but this woman was his biological mother, and there were many things he couldn't just resist.
He turned around and raised his voice, "MotherMom, what are you doing standing in the middle of the road?"
Emily seemed to snap out of a stupor.
Step by step, she walked toward the car.
It wasn't until she was closer that Keith noticed several deep purple marks on her neck – clear signs that someone had choked her.
"MotherMom, who did this?"
Emily subconsciously tugged at her collar.
She wandered the streets like a lost soul, unsure why she had suddenly come here.
Perhaps her subconscious told her that Keith was her last lifeline...
"Keith, has your daddy called you?"
Emily held onto Keith's shoulder, struggling to speak.
Keith shook his head, "What exactly happened?"
Emily turned to look at the car and said coldly, "Russell, get out."
Russell hesitated, looking at Keith, who nodded. Then he pushed the door open and stepped out of the driver's seat.
He walked up to Keith and whispered, "I'll be waiting nearby. Just give me a shout if you need anything."

"You can go home now," Emily said coldly, then dragged Keith into the car.

Keith pressed against the car door, his brow furrowed. "Where are you taking me, Mom?"

"Weren't you asking what happened? Let's find a place and talk slowly."

Emily settled into the driver's seat and buckled her seatbelt. "Get in, sit tight," she commanded.

Keith's frown deepened.

He had a nagging feeling that there was Something off about Emily that evening, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what it was.
