Chapter 969
"Why didn't you tell me about this?" Camilla demanded, her voice sharp.
Samantha looked down, avoiding her gaze. "When you first joined the Jenkins Family, you had nightmares every night. I thought you were being chased with your child and had to jump into the sea. You washed ashore, but the child might not have made it. I didn't want to upset you, Camilla."
Camilla's face went pale, and she clenched her fists. On the way back to the Jenkins Mansion, she had considered many things, but never that her child might be dead.
"Camilla, don't be sad. You can still have children," Samantha said nervously. "I'll find you a good husband, and you'll definitely have kids of your own."
"I'm not getting married," Camilla replied flatly. "If Mother insists on arranging a marriage for me, then I'll move out."
Samantha's face tightened, and she took a deep breath. "Camilla, every girl has to get married."
"I want to find out about my past," Camilla said calmly. "And I want to find out who hurt me back then. If my child was really killed, I won't let that person get away with it!"
Her voice was steady but determined, sending a chill down Samantha's spine.
"Camilla." Samantha asked, her voice trembling, "if you find the person who killed your child, what will you do?"
"I'll make her pay the same price," Camilla said, her lips pressed together. "But I believe my child was as lucky as I was, and one day we'll be reunited."
She gave Samantha a final glance, grabbed her bag, and left the Jenkins Mansion.
Samantha collapsed onto the sofa, completely drained.
"I told you we shouldn't have adopted her!" Patrick Jenkins, the head of the Jenkins Family, said coldly as he walked over.
Samantha turned to him and said softly, "To save Nicole, Camilla almost died on the operating table. She was in a coma for a year and lost her child. The Jenkins Family owes her too much! Adopting her and taking care of her is the least we could do."
"The Jenkins Family has given her three years of stability; that's enough," Patrick said, rubbing his fingers. "She has a strong personality and is very capable. If she finds out it was the Jenkins Family that caused her to lose her child, none of us will be able to handle her."
Camilla had only been with the Jenkins Family for three years, yet she had started an internet technology company that was doing very well. Rumor had it that the company was set to enter the municipal Internet Conference exhibition hall in Watertown. Camilla's abilities were not to be underestimated.
"If she finds her biological parents, she might uncover what we did four years ago," Patrick continued. "Sending her to marry into the Reynolds Family was a foolish decision."
Samantha's face turned pale. She moved her lips and said, "When we found Camilla, she had several scars on her face, so I got a plastic surgeon to change her appearance. Her family might not recognize her."
