Chapter 863
Hollis stormed out of the study with Ava, both of them fuming.
"Mom, Grandpa's so unfair!" Ava spat, clenching her teeth. "Why's he always sticking up for that illegitimate kid?"
"Ava, you gotta hustle harder," Hollis said, trying to keep her cool. "It's no shocker Bark's playing favorites since your last name ain't Lumi. You gotta be ten, no, a hundred times better than Bryan to snag that heir spot."
Ava lifted her chin, all smug. "The petrochemical project is a slam dunk. Haley's gonna be toast."
Hollis shook her head. "Haley's got that resort redesign going. If she pulls it off, it could be just as big as petrochemicals. We can't be sure we'll win."
"Tourism needs upfront cash, and they gotta wait to see returns. If the finance department doesn't cough up the funds, how are they gonna build anything?" Ava sneered. "Mom, you're the CEO. Everyone in the company jumps when you say so. Just say the word, and no one's gonna release a single dollar."
Hollis pressed her lips together. As long as Bark was around, she could never really call the shots.
But in this heir race, she was dead set on making sure Ava came out on top, no matter what.
After Hollis and Ava left, the study convo kept rolling.
Bark looked at Bryan, finally showing a hint of approval. Bryan hadn't totally let him down.
"Bryan, how's it been handling the project these past few days?" Bark asked.
Bryan stayed cool. "It's going alright, but I hope Hollis doesn't throw any more wrenches in the works."
Bark got serious. "If it happens again, come straight to me. I'll deal with Hollis myself."
Bryan smirked a bit. Even if Grandpa talked to her, Hollis would still do her thing. He just hoped she'd chill out a bit and not go overboard.
"Bryan, I checked out your new plan. It's solid," Cauth said, relieved. "The government's given it the green light. Now, I'll go with you to the finance department."
"No need, I'll handle it," Bryan said. "If there's any trouble, I'll come to you."
This was his shot, and he had to take it step by step on his own.
Bryan grabbed the approval docs, left the study, and headed to the company.
Bark kept nodding. "Bryan's finally stepping up, even if it's a bit late. If he'd been this driven earlier, Ava wouldn't even be in the running."
Even though Ava was Hollis's kid, Bark had a soft spot for his grandson Bryan. But Bryan had been slacking off for years, just like Cauth, not caring about the company.
Otherwise, Bark wouldn't have even thought about letting Ava take over Lumi Group.
"Guess bringing your illegitimate daughter back had some perks," Bark sighed. "At least Bryan's busting his butt for Haley."
Cauth frowned. "Dad, quit calling Haley an illegitimate kid. If I'd known Sankar was pregnant back then, I would've married her."
Bark nodded, not really caring.
Meanwhile, Bryan drove straight to Lumi Group.
